Originally saw them with lamb of God and trivium at a small venue in Kansas city early in their career. They were getting airplay on liquid metal, which is where first I heard them. Being a up-tempo(read as fast)thrash dude,I wasn't that into them and that still kinda persisted as they progressed. But both Jose Mangin from Sirius and juggernaut mike have hammered Gojira into my head enough that I have come around to them this last couple of years.
Full disclosure,I'm am pretty picky about what I will devote my "fandom" as far as music goes. Slower, plodding metal songs just don't excite me the way fast/blistering driving metal does. Was never into Sabbath or doom or the Down type of metal. And I still don't have a CD chock full of Gojira because this type of metal just doesn't give me what I crave like the new young generation of thrash type bands do. But Gojira does have something unique going on. They are kinda like that stinky cheese that France is famous for...yeah,I'll take a little bite now and then. But I would prefer the slab of crispy bacon that is thrash giving me the "meat sweats" and running rampant though my digestive system.
