I know it’s taboo for some forums like TGP. Me? I’m a fan. Having one done now, and just purchased another from the builder unloaded. Still trying to decide what pickups to go with, but it’s built to 59 Specs, so I’ll be going for the vintage vibe.

I only have an 84 Greco Sykes. Nice guitar, at least a Standard level compared to Gibson. But, you’re probably referring to spendy replicas that cost 10K and take a few yrs to build...like a Yaron?

I dont think anyone has a issue with les paul replicas most people I see complain about the chibsons.

The best pickups for period correctness is Wizz pickup. They’re imported so will squeal like a pig in high gain situation but you can request them potted.

Yes and no. The builder I found is much more affordable, but sadly only built a few to support his own builds. I know there are a few guys out there. My builders thought process was watching people spending thousands on Custom Shop guitars, to only spend thousands more to bring to 59 Specs. These 2 are old
Growth mahogany, Hyde glue, Brazilian Rosewood boards, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions..the one is going to have a pair of Bareknuckles...PG in the neck, and a Mule in the bridge. It’ll be my Gary Moore Tribute Burst with 50s wiring. Ill
Check out those other pickup companies.

Partially correct.
The Derrig was a Gibson LP replica.
However Gibson now makes a Slash sig of the Derrig which would make it a replica of a replica.
And his 2nd Derrig could be considered a replica of a replica of a replica i guess.
Saul could have avoided all that and just bought a Gibson to begin with.

And to muddy the waters, some claim he also recorded with a Max replica. Either way, I could never afford either of those guitars if they can available. But I’ll be happy with what I’ll have when I’m done, as they should be CS quality with better woods and period correct specs.

My Greco has Dry 82s, which are supposed to be very close to a Dry Z which Greco put in their late 70s LP custom clones..the Zs are highly sought after I understand. But, I’m not a fan of that PAF thing...I like more modern pickups.

I had a 82 Greco I regret selling. Man, some of those 80’s MIJ Greco’s and Tokai’s are as good as the Gibson’s.

Ive had/have many guitars from Japan including Orville & Tokai LP's.
Damn fine guitars.

I own a 1982 MIJ Greco Randy Rhoads LP Custom. Awesome guitar for sure.

I'd love to try a Yaron some day...

My R9 has WCR/JWP Godwoods. Awesome pups.

Metro George had his Yaron for sale a week ago.
Don't know the disposition of that.

I don't have any problem with the replica builds as long as they are not passed off as real Gibsons. Some of the high end builds I've seen are stunning.

I have a LP that’s not a Gibson.

I wanted SS frets and an ebony board with gold MOP inlays. Gibson doesn’t make anything like that. It’s built off of a ‘59 template.

So technically I dunno if it’s a replica, but it does replicate a LP.

Agreed! There will be a Internet trail on both of mine to hopefully make sure that never happens.

Any pics? Any chance it was done by a builder in AZ?
