Anyone remember the Peavey Penta?

i have the Rosington maroon cab with V30s. I think it was the same cab as the Pentas. bought it for $100 at a thrift store years ago. great cab.

I got mine for $400 new around 15 years ago. I have 2 of the Penta 4x12's in storage. They're both loaded with Celestion 75's. I got those from GC for $200 each in excellent condition. It's a good amp. Sounds great boosted. Beyond Black likes to hate on it! 😂View attachment 378377

It's a great concept. The amp has 11 relays to change various components. The 5 ways switch has preset combinations. Low gain, has less tubes/gain stages, high gain has more/gain stages. The EQ has 5 relays switching the components. You'd have to treat each mode as a different amp. They should have made it a VTM 2.0 and let the user select the combinations of "mods", and added an effects loop.

Jerry at fja turned them into monsters. He’s the pv whisperer though…. The cabs are supposed to be excellent as well.

It was designed as a George Lynch model, and despite his classic gear-whoring most of the stuff he (almost) put his name on is pretty good. The Penta is no exception, it´s a good amp. The second mode rotary probably was a mistake, leading people to think it was a two-channel amp. It is much more viable as a single-channel. Haven´t played one in fifteen years, though!
Was just about to post the same thing, glad I read the thread lol. Yep another Lynch offshoot from Peavey that he never got his name on.

The Penta has some big iron it. And I read somewhere online that the green tolex is actually school bus seat vinyl.
