Anyone still LIKE their JVM?

I know a lot of guys that "heard one" or "played through one once" at GC hate them. But I'm mainly interested in hearing from those of you guys that either own one or put some REAL time into playing through one. Has the honyemoon wore off or are you still in love?
 
Love it for what it is...a 4 channel 12 mode amp that does very well to cop different Marshall tones and some new ones as well.

I am lucky to have funds for other amps so this one is not going anywhere for the time being.
 
What I like best about mine is that I don't have it anymore. I'm writing it off as a speedbump :o :scared: :( :) :D ;) :doh:

I thought the JVM had a bunch of good tones, but no great one's. I know it's all about who's playing it but i didn't like the crunch channel and OD2 was a waste IMHO. I liked the clean and OD1. But i think i would rather just use a JCM800 if i was going to use a Marshall. And next to my MarkIV, the JVM wasn't going to get plugged into much.
 
I have played the one my local store quite a bit.

Everytime i played it, it sounded great and all but the feel wasn't there for me. It felt like playing with a piece cardboard.

I never really got used to od2, it just sounded all wrong.
Od1 i loved the tone. absolutly loved it. But i could get that same tone out of the VM almost(if i were using my guitar it would have been there)

crunch was ok, i don'tuse that kinda tone much.

cleans were nice, but i've been finding that i prefer a rolled off volume on a dirty channel for my clean/semiclean sound

so i was spending 99% of my time on OD1 Orange, and just rolled the volume back when i needed a cleaner tone.

if it sat next to my DR, i don't think i would plug into it unless i was gunna use a chorus pedal and use it as a wet amp.

That's my opinion of it too....not my cup of tea. Fine amp though for those that want what if offers.

Whole different beats...and I agree. Marshall isn't what it used to be, it's trying to fit in with todays very high gain crowd I'm guessing...as it should evolve with the times.
 
I like mine ,even though I like to get a VM , but then again I want a Framus Cobra too and while Im at it a EVH 5150 III.

But I love the JVM ,I like OD-1 red and the clean. :thumbsup:
 
I still like mine...still gigging with it almost every weekend. But I AM considering switching back to a DSL simply because the JVM has too many features. I thought I'd need everything but I really don't. I'm not sure what I want to do yet.
 
I sold mine but I do think it's one of the best amps for versitility and dug a lot of it's tones. But Once I played the VM there was no going back to the JVM again. The JVM is kinda on the dark warm side. The VM is clear and open. But for a gigging guitarist that needs a lot of tones I can't imagine a better buy than the JVM.
 
I like mine a lot. The rise and fall with the RT crowd was pretty quick but mine sounds great and I totally dig it. :D
 
I don't currently own one, but I still dig the hell out of that amp and will own one some day when my credit card debt is payed off.


That said, I liked all of the new Marshalls that came out this year and could work with any of the models.
 
I still have mine, and I am really digging it, but I use it in a dual amp rig with a 73 superbass. Still, I did a gig yesterday with it alone into a 2x12 cab and it cut thru against an svt+8x10 just fine.
I think its like anything else, the tone is decidedly marshall, and if you prefer boogie or something else, you may like it but eventually gravitate back to what you are accustomed to.
 
I still can't figure out if I like mine or not.... One day I think it's fantastic...the next day...thin as hell. Twice I've rehearsed with it...and found it sounding incredibly thin in the band setting.... I hooked up the Splawn...and it spanked the JVM...which was a real surprise to me. Does anyone else think OD1 thins out...big time as the volume increases??? I'm getting a replacement since I've replaced V3 on this one about 4 times...and it really seems inconsistent to me... if that doesn't do the trick.... there's a bunch of amps on the horizon I'd like to try... Starting either with the cameron or the 5150III.
 
Yep, so far I'm still loving it. It's been road tripping with me now for 2 months. Every guitarist that hears it is pretty much blown away. Some have confused it with the ATV series because of all the knobs, then they're like "oh the new JVM". Some have played them at GC and said they weren't impressed until they heard mine. The really amazing thing is...me being the anal ass that I am needing things to match, bought a slant Marshall 4x12 with 75's (in the past my arch enemy)on the cheap and it sounds good ...so good that my JSX is in semi-retirement, and my 5150 cabs and Splawn cabs are relaxing in storage.

Much like the Crunch channel on the XXX, OD-1 in amber is one of the best tones I've heard on any amp I've ever owned (to many to mention) or played through. Running one of my 3 Les Pauls w/ 500T's through them it's always consistent. The amps is also bone stock, not even checked the bias. I'm suprised because I grew up on Marshall and moved on years ago...it's nice to be playing them again.

The amp records incredibly well also...in fact having the 4 channels was a breeze in the studio.

I've yet to fully integrate the midi control because I'm basically just using OD-1 live...pretty much like any multi channel amp I've owned...i always end up just using one channel and the guitars volume knob...but the amp has so many possibilities that it's a keeper. I would like to have OD-2 modded to OD-1 specs.

At the moment I'm entirely gasless in terms of gear. I don't lile making hard statements but the EVHIII is not worth the money or sound that much different from the original to make me want it and other than that (the cab is awesome though), the only 2 amps I'm interested in hearing at the moment is the VHT SigX and the Cameron. In fact I'm satisfied enough right now that the only thing I'm going to do is buy a wireless and possibly switch the 75's out for GH30's

It feels good to be gear stable.
 
I'm still in the honeymoon phase even though its been over 3 months. I think the amp does a great job of getting a broad range of tones including most Marshall types, although they are probably not nailed. I can't say for sure because I only have a 2204 right now and it doesn't nail that. I have to say that I haven't owned a Marshall I didn't really like, which includes a couple 1959's; TSL100/122; DSL201; JMP-1. The only exception is a JCM900 4502 DR which was mediocre even after tube swaps/ speaker swaps and modding.
I guess I'm in the minority in that I love OD2 especially red and like the low mid bark especially through the Bogner 4x12 cab.
