Anyone still LIKE their JVM?

But for a gigging guitarist that needs a lot of tones I can't imagine a better buy than the JVM.

Exactly. With me being in a classic rock cover band this amp is the shit. Rarely a tone I can't cop or come close to. Mine ain't going anywhere. I kept thinking about getting the new 5150 III as an addition but I think I'm over it. I was playing Jamies Cryin and Ain't Talkin Bout Love last night on the JVM's OD1 orange with some nice reverb and phase with my Gmajor
and I'm just stunned at the fantastic tone. Then a quick stomp of my midi controller and off to the crunch orange channel for a little Tom Petty.

No, the honeymoon ain't anywhere near over.

What I like best about mine is that I don't have it anymore. I'm writing it off as a speedbump :o :scared: :( :) :D ;)
Man Steve, you sure bag on the JVM alot. While you had it, it was the greatest thing. Then you return it something like 44 days into your 45 day trial period and it becomes the shittiest amp on the planet?

I still think they are pretty cool amps....

Played mine for 2 hours last night, sounded great as always and still have over 4 years on the warrenty

I tried one out (combo) for the first time yesterday and thought it was pretty damn decent! It was at a friend's house so I had a lot of time to tweak / crank it up etc. I dialed in 4 good sounds pretty quickly, and used all the switching and options while we jammed. The footswitch is ingenius. I'm happy with my current rig but I wouldn't mind having one of these at all.

Good stuff there George, good stuff!
Thanks! I tried to hit your website awhile back and check out your vids...couldn't get them to work for some reason though.

Wow! Great tone and excellent playing! Very impressive on both accounts.

Thanks Mark. Through a good broken in cab, its a pretty easy amp to dial in. I don't like the Crunch channel much but the Clean and OD1 are awesome!

George,

You should have your clips posted over at the JVM site

You know Ralph, I always forget about that site and the VHT site too....

The new footswitch is indeed ingenius, I love it.

I never bought one, so my opinion isn't as useful as someone who owned the amp. But I did spend a decent amount of time playing several JVM's trying to talk myself into buying one. On multiple ocassions I was left unimpressed by the tones and impressed by the versatility.

I don't think the JVM sounds bad in any way, it doesn't sound great in any way. I agree with some others who say that the distortion is over the top useless after about 1/2 gain. The OD2 channel would be of no use for me and didn't sound like a good Marshall to my ears. The Crunch and OD1 channels were OK but not stellar.

I love the footswitch capabilities, although the footswitch LED's could be better done with consideration for people who will play the amp on a dark stage and want to see a LED by each button so they know where they are in the maze of options.

The cheesy and flimsy control mounting is shameful on any "pro" level amplifier. I compared this to a buddy's TSL and the TSL has much better mounted pots, so it's probably due to Marshall having to cram so many knobs into such a tight area and cost cutting measures. Still, no excuse for that, period.

No matter how much I tried, through a variety of cabinets, I could not make the JVM sound anywhere near as good as my Splawn Quickrod for anything from classic rock to hard rock to 80's metal to heavier stuff. YMMV. My Splawn is the 3 gears but shared clean gain version and the clean channel sucks where the JVM clean is pretty damn good for a hard rocking amp. The Splawn is versatile but not nearly as versatile as the JVM and even though it has 3 distinctly different gain channels with an OD2 mode and boost mode for each plus a clean channel those 10 different modes cannot be switched on the fly like the JVM's 12 mode can.

Compared to the JCM2000 and JCM900 amps I think it's far superior. The best amp Marshall has made in 15 years would probably be a fair statement. But the last 15 years have seen so many new amp companies with so many cool new amps that there is 100 times more competition in the marketplace these days. Just because it's the best Marshall has made doesn't make it the best amp on the market. I think the JVM is a great amp with some shortcomings (like all amps) for a fair price compared to similar amps, but it doesn't do it for me.

I know the Splawn won't do the K0rn-Bizkitz flabby-azz 9-string slap-happy nu-metal 2-turntables-and-a-mic-boyeee be3wtaL can-someone-please-help-me-hold-up-my-pants-while-I-pose-with-this-gothic-guitar-around-my-ankles hate my parents heavy stuff like some amps can, but let's face it...that's bedroom tone that doesn't cut through a real band mix no matter how many gigawatts you have and no matter how German the name or overpriced the amp is. I'll leave that to the bedroom warriors, I need an amp that sounds good and articulate and sits well in a band mix and can be heard clearly and most importantly makes me smile when I hit a big chord or take a lead. Right now that amp is the Splawn QR. I'm always open to try new amps within reasonable price ranges and I'm not married to any of them, I'll buy whatever I like and try everything new that comes out.

Anyone have any clips?
Here's one....

That does sound really good, but I have a feeling I'd probably like your Wizards better, personally. Great playing as usual though

Yeah, I like my Wizards better too. But it's not really a fair comparison considering the price difference. For somone that needs a ton of flexibilty in a small package, the JVM is pretty awesome though. I don't like all the channels and modes, but the Clean and its three modes, footswitching and FX loops and the OD1 Orange is worth the price of admission!

I owned one for 25 days out of the 30 before GC's return policy would expire. As most say, it does have tons of good tones. But I found myself sticking to 1 or 2 modes of a given channel, and never used/liked the others. So. to me, it was a waste of money having all those channels that I wouldnt use. SO I returned it and got a JSX, changed the tubes to 6L6's, and I couldnt be happier. I got the JSX for $1,100 and its been great. I truly recommend giving the jsx a fair shot, and do it using a cab with V30's, not the garbage peavey speakers. As you could guess, it sounds much different with 6L6's as compaired to the EL34's. depending on the manufacture date, it will come with either JJ's or EH tubes. Anyways, didnt mean to change the focus of this thread's amp.
