Anyone tried a Southbay Ampworks cab?

My amp tech has a couple. Nice cabs.
I think the magic is more in the Scumbacks than the actual cab, imo.
To me, they (the cabs) don't seem that different than Splawn/Mojo.

PM Riddick. He has one. I've played it. It's a nice cab. I've never really liked an SLO until I played his SLO through that cab. That being said, I prefer my Mills cabs for my amps/style.

I do think that Southbay cab would go great with that Marsha you have on order. In fact, that's the cab I'm gonna buy if I ever buy a Marsha. With the Scumbacks, it's priced like a Diezel cab though.

Yeah they are pricey. Did you think it was built much different than the Bogners, old Diezel cabs, etc.?

I didn't really inspect the build quality of it - just wanted to hear it. From the web-site, they look like they are built well though. If you have a Bogner or a Diezel cab, a speaker change may be all you need to get what your looking for - from a sound perspective.

DEWD: just to let you know, the Southbay name is going to be going away in about 2 months, and the cabs have all been moved to the Scumback site...here: http://www.scumbackspeakers.com/cabinets.html

There are differences in the materials used to build and the construction of the cabs from other suppliers. I use the genuine Marshall tolex & cloth as well. There are several clients with Bogner 2x12's using Scumbacks, as well as many other cab makers cabs (Splawn, Mojo, etc). You can't go wrong with upgrading the other maker's cabs with Scumbacks, of course, and the cabs I offer are built to the old 60's Marshall cab specs with enhanced joinery, and the BB3 baltic birch (known as furniture grade) while most, if not all other cab makers I know of use BB1 (standard) or BB2 (cabinet grade) plywood.

If you're looking for a more modern looking cab, you'll want to consider the other maker's cabs, as I'm just doing the old stack look (with comparable 1x12 and 2x12 cabs) in my cab line.
