Anyone Using a Poweramp Other Than VHT With Their M4?

Again, just curious. Seems these are the most popular with the M4.

Current solution RT2/50 - it's nice to have the Switching feature to change tubes on a whim.

Preferred solution - into the loop (series return) of my RM50HB..it just sounds warmer.

LOL. Yeah I know what he uses. I currently have a VHT 2/50/2 and think it's fine but I'm wondering how I'd like a Mesa. I had a 50/50 once and thought it was great. But I'm also considering running the M4 in the loop of my Lonestar.

remember Mesa 50/50 does not equal the Mesa 2:fifty.

The 2:fifty does a weird scoop to the sound. It's the only power amp I couldn't wait to sell.

I use Rivera Power amps about half of the time.

RT2/50 users...how do you balance the channel master, vs the pre-amp master and power amp master volume?

I can get great tones at almost any volume with my MOD50 and RM50 with/without the RM4 or M4 in the series loop but for the life of me I have so much more difficulty doing that with the RT2/50.....the master on it seems so touchy...I seem to be continually fidling with it to get a great low(ish) volume tone.

I set the masters at about 3:00 on the RT and set individual module volumes not to clip the input of the G and work the master on the m4 as a master and can get great tones at low volume, not sure if this helps.

HHHHHMmmmmmmmmmmm ive have always been doing this backwards. I crank the pre and bring the master up on the amp. I notice on Erics M4 the master is down and his VHT looks maxed on master volume. I have been getting great tones at 230 -3 oclock on the M4 and adjust the RT2/50 at 8-9 oclock. Im going to have to try it the other way. I just thought I should push the preamp tubes, then no one i knew ever had a rack set up,mostly just fender twins, Dean and Boogies.

I've always ran my master's on my power amps at 100%. I'm running my M4 at 12:00 oclock now. I use the Lexicon MPXG2's post volume (basically a volume right before the master output) as my "master volume".

I've ran my power amps at 100% for like 8 years now. Just a habit :)

This is what I''ve been doing too...there's a certain point on the M4 master where the tone starts to thin out...I prefer it at 12 o'clock or higher (with the individual channels balanced around 12 o'clock also).....but it doesn't sound anywhere near as nice as the RM50 or MOD50 (using this same method)

I feel it does. Has a little juicier tone and bigger tone than at lower levels.

Yeah, I felt the same. That's why I changed it the M4 master to 12 oclock. I love my M4 with VHT 2/90/2 so much! I personally like that setup more than my Mod50...but that's me, and that's why we have options!!! :)

If I even get close to running the master on the M4 this high with how I run my setup,I would be dead :rock:this thing can get fucking LOUD!!!!! The RT just doesn't sound as organic as the Mod power sec. but I prefer the drier setup for this app,it can sound more aggressive!!!But that's just me!!I maybe just getting meaner with age

I always thought i would get noise or hum coming out in my speakers and thought it would sound cleaner the other way.
