Dialed back the gain on the center-panned track quite a bit, boosted 4Khz with EQ on the left & right tracks, and dialed back the reverb a tad..

I think you're right. Helping me get closer to that AiC magic. ?

Well, on my laptop speakers it sounds better.......not as much low end fart on the low chords.

For 'me' I find when I lower the gain just a tad I can play fuller note chords......more strings hit/heard = more kerrang.........to me.

Single note stuff is different of course.

It's tough to judge on earbuds or PC speakers.

I'm listening thru a pair of reference monitors placed at ear-level at my mixing desk.

But, it is immensely helpful to have another pair of ears give constructive criticism and suggestions. (y)
