As much as I enjoy 80’s hair metal in doses these days…

It was part of the image obviously. It made the drummer look bigger and cooler, that’s all. Some guys did use a big kit well. As mentioned Tommy Aldridge comes to mind and he is IMO a waaaaay underrated and under appreciated drummer. He was just a monster player all around.

But the audience wanted to see a big kit and all that. Remember Scott Rockenfield’s big drum cage covered in chains? I’m sure the chains added to his drum sound and enhanced his performance. Tommy Lee’s aerial rotating drum platform? Just part of the show and image, this was not stripped down blues or something.

This is super easy to answer. Ingo Schwichtenberg from Helloween.

Just like we have a 4x12 or two (or three) we don’t need. Something’s gotta hold up all those heads (tom’s).

Fun thread 🤣 Just to be clear I was speaking of the genre, not the era. My bad. I edited my initial post to state that.

In the video’s they had cars they couldn’t afford, clothes they didn’t own, girls they couldn’t actually screw but a double bass drum defies all suspension of disbelief?
“Caruthers….the lack of musical integrity in this soft core porn shoot with a guitar solo is troubling and endangers my reputation as an artist”
Nailed it 😁

It’s no wonder that generation of music gets shit on today on multiple accounts 🤦🏻‍♂️

Who cares about the opinion of some high and mighty musical snob who “gives shit” to that music? I don’t get this argument at all.

I understand how silly a lot of that era was, but that music seems to be standing the test of time. A lot of young folks dig 80’s hair metal. It’s practically making a comeback of sorts. It was fun. It was catchy, and it didn’t take itself too seriously. What’s not to love about that?

THIS. That's MY ERA and I fucking love that music. My daughter plays guitar and drums and she grew up on this stuff. She loves it!

FUCK GRUNGE. Yeah, I said it. Glad I did. FUCK GRUNGE.

i grew up in the 80s listening to all the 80s metal bands, my father was a dj and i had every record ever. last year Ratt was still my most listened to band according to streaming sites and there were a few others in my top 10. that said, the 80s did not age well lol, im not sure why that annoys some of you so much
