Attenuators

I slave a NMV Marshall to a Suhr RL then out to a Soldano Mini SLO and back to a 4x12. Works great

If money is no object, Fryette Power station or PS-2. The Suhr is great too if you have a slave amp or power amp

It’s technically not an attenuator (since it takes everything to line level and then reamps), but fryette powerstation is generally considered the best for attenuation- Dave Friedman and many other big names use them.
Dave Friedman sits in a chair. Pete Thorn was touring with the TAE and he is a Suhr endorser. Thing is amazeballs--nothing else does what it does.

I know I am alone in this because everyone goes crazy for the Fryettes, but I have tried and returned the Power Station a few times and I just don't get why people love it so much. It sucks the feel out of the tube amp and ends up sounding no different to me than a simulator. Ive only tried the Tone King Iron Man II mini, but that sounded and felt way better to me.
I don't know about the Fryette .
I have bought and sold it 3 times over the years.
Why?
I swear you can hear a difference and if you want to run 2 cabs you need to have someone make you a Y cable that is the correct in/out ohm.
If I'm wrong trying to run 2 cabs, please let me know

ok. Fryete seems like the clear winner. I’ve got a local dealer who sells them, so thats a plus.

What is the Boss TAE like?

Is the two notes captor x even worth it?

Is there an all in one unit that is an attenuator/ ir loader?

Why would you have tomake a special cable? As for sounding different, if it is turned up loud enough to overdrive the PS power amp, then yeah it would sound different. Otherwise it sounds no different with any of my amps.

That’s a really weird thing to say not gonna lie. Also I’ve owned both and the power station smoked the tae. And I dont use attenuators any more
Smoked lol? So you’ve owned a TAE? Where can I find your review here  ?

If your rig never moves then you have different needs—hence my chair comment. I love Dave but if you are an active guitar player relying on an expensive box to be the brain of your rig you want it to do everything possible to make your life easier. The TAE does a lot more for a gigging guitarist than anything else out there.

It looks like the PS has two speaker jacks, so no Y-cable needed.

Edit: Mmm, the PS100 model, however, looks like it only has one.

The thread is titled "Attenuators," but I wanted to share a related idea that serves a similar purpose while maintaining the important "moving air" element: Isolation Cabs. Easy to DIY and fairly inexpensive in comparison.

I really like the Power Station. It does change the tone some but it is minimal depending on the amp.

I also have the TAE, OX Box, Suhr load, Fractal load and SPL Reducer. All are decent products with their own drawbacks.

The TAE for Marshall amps is fantastic. Possibly better than the PS.

I have the 100-watt Fryette so no 2nd speaker input jack
Your cabs don’t have two jacks on them? If not and if you don’t want to add them, get a small pedal enclosure and wire up three jacks. One in and two outs.

Interesting. I have the PS-2 and run two cabs at all times. Seems like a bad idea to only have one speaker out on the 100. Looks like he used the second speaker jack for the footswitch. That changes my thinking about picking up the 100, but I am happy with the PS-2 so not a big deal.

Good afternoon Everyone!

Ross from Two notes here. As this thread is attenuator-centric, I thought you might be interested in the latest news from TNHQ!

Please meet Reload II!

Featuring twin-channel operation, selectable multi-impedance compatibility, a Celestion Approved Load Response and true continuous attenuation, Reload II is our most advanced Load Box to date. I have been testing this for the past few months now and the feature spec really is killer - our development team really knocked it out the park!

The discussion here is about attenuation and not the additional features. The consensus in the community- including comments here, the reviews of many professionals, and schmucks like me as well, is that in terms of purely lowering the volume fryette does it the best- with the caveat that its not literal attenuation, and rather a load box followed by a power amp. I wrote a comprehensive review of both a while back, but Im not going spend time finding it for someone who is being a dick.
