so, you're comparing the sound of a unit whose clips are probably more often that not DI'd with sims to a pedal in front of an amp and miked?

Seriously?

And you see no flaw in that logic?

Want to know how many awesome amp tones I can get in 20 seconds? 20. 30 seconds? 30. etc-etc. All it takes is the click of a midi pedal. As a live cover tune guitarist who is true to the unique amp tones of almost every song we play, pedals are totally useless to me. I don't have time to be twisting amp and pedal knobs between songs if I ever expect to play the same venue again. However, I'm glad you enjoy your pedals. I've got to have something more versatile on demand for live use and the Ultra is everything and then some.

I havent heard any clips of the AXE FX that I have liked enough to get me interested in buying or trying one...
but that doesnt have me questioning why anyone else likes the unit.

+10,000 : I have stayed out of the Ax Fx postings for this very reason. If people like Ed are saying they are great then my guess is they most likely are! I like my current setup and have no gas for one, however that does not mean that they are not the bomb.

is that confirmed ??

as far as I know those clips were recorded direct using the AMT cabinet modeling output.

I feel the same way, I just wish there were more demo models available for people to get their hands on....other than that, all we have is clips. But "feel" is half the battle for a good amp (IMHO).

that clip new to me - sounds really good , but I'll bet there a tube power amp being used !

Direct using 2 cab IRs and 4 presents from the information I'm gathering.

well in that case - Killer Tone

The Army of Evil sounds good to me. I don't know anything about Axe-Fx though.
Are you gonna buy an Army of Evil? What about the pre-amp?

you mean the ss-10 preamp - maybe its not released yet !!

the army of evil is just in pedal form as far as I know.

I like the army and might if the price drops to $299

The ss-20 is 1st on my list

btw, theres more clips to be heard -

I don't know either way, it just looked like a pedal, and I read somewhere about using it with an amp...

I don't understand why one would need a preamp. Is that if you only have a poweramp, and no preamp? What's the difference between a preamp and a distortion pedal?

By the way, pedalgeek.com sez they have one:

I really like the clips of that distortion pedal, but that is also being run problaly into a nice amp and speakers. I love a great amp!!!

I also love the convenience of direct recording. here is a clip I just did real quick actually from this thread, trying for a heavier type sound. guitars were recorded through the axe.

and thats exactly what I wanted - honest opinions !!

thanx

If we're talking high gain, this is the best Axe-FX clip I've heard for that kinda style:

I take it back....I have now heard an Axe Fx clip that impressed me. That was damn good, no matter what the tone came from

I would like to know what amp sim that is.
