One year later (from OP)
So did end up sending this back to Mesa and they addressed the popping issues I was having as well as the lack of gain on the lead channel and lack of volume.
Mike B did do the work, so he is still doing some. Took 12 weeks total turn around
"replaced shorted cap in lead circuit causing low volume gain and volume and bad switching pop. Tested with FTSW too. Upgraded the .1/400 volt caps at V5 to .1/630 volt. Added grid isolation resistors at A/B socket too. Cleaned jacks, burn and playtest. Labor 1.25 hrs." $160.00

now this thing is breathing fire, my R2 channel has almost as much gain as my lead channel, the best R2 of any Mark IV I've owned so far
I now have a real clean/rhythm/lead set up with this head
V1 NOS Mullard Blackburn
V2 high gain JJ
V3 NOS RFT
V3 chinese square getter Shuagang
V5 Sovtek LPS
Sounds f'n killer can't wait to try it out at rehearsal on Tuesday :)

picked up a vertical 2X12 for it as well.

Awesome man!! I just got my mkiv back from Mesa a couple weeks ago. Mike B also did the work and ya....sounded great going in and absolute fire breather now! Keeper for sure; not going to be stupid and sell like I did with my first one in the early 00's.

Concerning the combos, does the wide version is more appreciated than the short one ?

Mike B told me about a month ago he's not working on IVs anymore. Sorry bud.

For real? Weird because I just sent mine in and he serviced it. Got it back a couple weeks ago. If that is indeed true I got very lucky.

Guess that means he wasn't working on mine! Ha!
