Thought I post up a quick clip comparing the BKP Rebel Yells with a Duncan JB/59 combo. They are pretty similar sounding. The JB is a touch thicker in the midrange. Overall I think they are both great sounding pickups. The RY has a bit more clarity, but the JB pushes the front end of the amp better. Both guitars were played through my 2005 Splawn QuickRod. Hardwire DL8 in the loop for some ambiance.

Nice!

Just put a set of RY's in Walnut neck through Carvin ST300 and think they sound pretty good through my Engls. Still don't dig em as much as the Painkiller that was in there prior. Gonna try the RY's in my 04 LP studio next. I was on the fence about buying BKPs considering price, but so far the ones I've tried (C-pig, PK, RY) have been well worth the coin

I have both of these. IMHO:

JB has more congested mids and pushes the amp a bit harder

RY is a bit more open sounding, brighter, and with a quicker attack.

Seymour Duncan has held the pickup market for a long time, and you would think there isn't possibly an upgrade to what they offer, but I have become a huge fan of Bareknuckle over the years. As far as I'm concerned, the Rebel Yells (among other Bareknuckles) are better than any Duncan except maybe the Warren Demartini and Brobucker (both custom shop pickups). I wouldn't say the JB is thicker, just that the mids are emphasized differently. The Rebel Yells I think have a bit more low end and extended high-end, but the way the JB mids are kind of glutted makes it seem thicker.

Both companies offer good pickups. It's all about taste. The PATB-1 in my Charvel just kills.

So were the RYs the first played or the second? I liked the 2nd one better.

The RY bridge shares a lot of similarities to the Painkiller IMO. Just had them both in the same guitar and it seems like the RY is voiced very similarly only it has a tad more bass and of course less saturation and push.

I need to try a Duncan Distortion next

Took a quick break from studying, (College is really interfering with my guitar playing  Should of got it out of the way 25 years ago) and came up with a short little riff. Just threw down the mic without consideration for any of that jazz and came up with it on the fly, so excuse the slop, discontinuity, and randomness.

Second guitar was the JB.

Mr. SS had Painkillers and said they were too hot for his tastes. He uses RYs and Mules per interview.

What speakers are you using in your clip?
Sorry to resurrect an older thread but they sound really good.

Both sounded good.. a bit more perceived cut and not as thick with the JB. I am a huge Aldrich fan for the best of all worlds. Splawn sounds like an awesome amp.

I have a love/hate relationship the the Aldrich pickups. One day I love them, the next I can get them out of the guitar fast enough. lol! And the Splawn is a killer amp. Love this thing!
