Not really into many rock bassist tones, my favs are all jazz and fusion cats.

Looks like you've been hanging out at the "other" forum a bit lately

LMAO

Tis true, most rock guys tone is not very good as they are rarely in front like jazz cats or fusion dudes.

Show me a better rock tone then ma boy Marcus Miller

Burning the fucking joint down!!!

Plus that other forum would have their heads chopped by bass playing jazz cats

The guy from Tool has some good tone and the guy behind the boards with whatever bass players were on for A Perfect Circle.

There...........rock players

Doug Pinnick from Kings X is the only player who's bass tone I have been stunned by. All the rest of them are playing bass. I don't want to hear their tone getting in the way of the guitar tone. Bury them in the mix. The best way to do this is give them the wrong directions to the studio that you are mixing at.

There can be only one...........LEMMY!!

actually I like Steve Harris, Geddy Lee, Dennis Dunaway (original Alice Cooper band). Those are all somewhat distorted, I think that sounds cool.

usually anyone that uses a Sansamp sounds good and cuts through.... I love what the sansamp does for bass tone... brings out the top of the strings so nicely...

Wow, who woulda thunk it...guitar players with opinions on bass players tone...  :D

Lots of research to do...thanks guys.

Hey man, how are you guys recording his rig?, and what is his rig?

My favorite bass tones:

Geddy Lee (Rush) - his Avalon DI / Sansamp / Palmer stuff
Dug Pinnick - any of his tones are amazing!
Robert Deleo (STP) - his tone on Purple was AMAZING! Definitely one of the most underrated bassists ever!!!

I'd have to agree. I think he has the most unique tone I've heard.

My boy Trip playing through a THD Flexi!

Jesus, that neck is a fucking divingboard!!

BTW, that Marcus Miller video above is killer! Whenever I feel stagnant when writing a guitar solo I find it always helps to go listen to some shreddin Sax players.
