Bassman mod?

Rich, I think for specific questions, it's probably best to PM Jeff, not post in the forum here.

(I know that self-modding is a LOT more prevalent over on the MTS Grailtone forums, but not so here. )

Module modding is a pretty touchy subject, and to respect Jeff and Bruce, I don't think discussing cap values and locations in public is the best idea. Even though it's not REALLY a secret (anyone with time on their hands could trace the circuit and write down component values, etc...), the more info that's posted, the more you run the risk of people damaging their own modules, or hurting themselves.

It can backfire, create a slew of people modding and screwing up their modules, create a slew of hacked-up modules circulating around, etc, etc, etc. Just all sorts of problems.

Just my opinion...

PS. This is based on first hand experience. I "modded" one of Eric's modules - soldered VERY carefully and neatly, but because I didn't know what I was REALLY doing, the thing was oscillating like a UFO. And needed to be corrected. I learned from the experience, and nothing was damaged, but think about if 100 people decided to do this, and then called Eggy HQ to complain. Jeff would not be a happy man...

Agreed 100% here. For me, if I have a need tonally I'm not getting out of my Eggie stuff...I'm gonna call Jeff. Jeff did great work on mthe SL2X for me...and also on my XTC module. I trust Jeff and Bruce 100% to get me where i want tonally. Maybe a stock module...may be a tweak to an existing module.

For most of us, the best way is to just ask Jeff / Bruce get you where you want. They know the most oabout the modules...and having a couple issues w/ a mod gone bad in the past dealing w/ oscillation, I am much less interested in having anything modded by anyone but Jeff and Bruce.

But I agree 100% with Nick on this. Plus I want to respect Jeff / Bruce also. They have been MORE THAN HELPFUL and kind t me over the past year. I cannot say another organization like theirs helping their customers as much as they have helped me, and others.

Thanks a lot Bruce...Thanks a lot Jeff. I wouldn't be where I'm at tonally without Egnater...

I think what it comes down to is, whether or not you mod as a hobby, or a business.

I'll be the first to admit that I "mod" my modules as a hobby, for myself, because I like to tinker. (For me, I find it relaxing to break out the ol' soldering iron and solder some caps on the coffee table while my girlfriend hogs the TV and watches Bridezillas.)

Salvation, Jaded Faith (not to mention Jeff)... those guys are in the BUSINESS of amp modding. And don't really want their techniques/secrets/mods posted in public, or else they'd be OUT of business...

And if you mod them as a hobby, like me, I don't feel like I have the right, or authority, to make what I do public knowledge.
