Ok?!? You dial the loop to unity volume... And then you only use your front master?
Interesting. I always thought the back volume is your global master and the front should be Set to 5.

Yes. Unity gain and use the front master volume. I think it's absurd to have to use the return level on back of the amp for volume. Such a hassle IMO.

I emailed Dave a while back about it. He said it makes it no difference either way and it's fine to do it like I run it. And my effects sounds great in the loop.

So much confusion in the thread, whew... But If your using effects in the amp loop, you're supposed to do the opposite. Get the front masters up to around 4-6 and then the back loop Return volume like a master volume and adjust to taste. I believe it says this in the manual. If this has changed then many people I know that own Friedmans are still running it this way like the manual suggests when using loop, and I would like to know if this setup or "suggestion" has changed.

In all honesty I like running my amp loop a little over halfway and then cranking the front masters to around 3-4. PLENTY loud for shows.

That's what the manual says, you're correct.

I personally didn't like using the loop level as a master. Just inconvenient. So I set it to unity gain with loop on or off and used the front master for volume. Amp sounded just a good and my effects sounded perfect this way.

I was worried I may have been doing something I shouldn't have, because the manual tells you otherwise. So I emailed Dave directly and asked him if running loop up at 7-8 and using front master was ok. He said it was not a problem and was just fine.

Bottom line, try both and see what suits you better. Either way is perfectly safe and you'll have amazing tone. I think you'll enjoy the convenience of using the master on the front, but just try it and decide. It's definitely cheap and easy.

I've tried it several ways over last 2 years and the loop master around noon and front around 2 1/2 sounds best with my effects.

I have been running the loop at 3/4 and using front master, sounds really good,I guess it would depend on the effect, some have different input levels and ways of adjusting them,I have my input level low and I then adjust the effect level to a low percentage as well, seems to be easy to get more effective if needed.the amp sounds very punchy,I tried it both ways, didn't hear any difference in the tone or the effect. The mild phase I heard was due to a effect setting and delay type, appreciate all the help,If it does sound noticeably differntly using the loop mix as a master please inform me what I'm doing wrong.hate to miss out.

I'm with you on this one. Sounds the same to me either way. Just adjust the level of your effects to taste and it's all good!
