Clips never accurately convey the psychoacoustics actually happening in the room.
For that reason it's why a lesser piano may convince someone it's a Bosendorfer grand on a recording, but never in person.
Not to mention amplifier feel and touch sensitivity cannot be documented on a recording as it's a purely interactive experience for the player, not merely an auditory sensation for the listener. You get that, right?

But I trust my ears. And they tell me "ah, boring TGP tan pants noodling always sounds the same no matter what amp it's on."

And everything with gear is a matter of perspective. For some people the speakers are most important. For some people it's the pickups. For some it's the amp.

It all depends on your play style and what you're going for.

Perhaps it DOESNT matter all that much for tan pants Jimmy - but I trust my ears, and the math of all the great circuit designers out there. And it certainly matters for me and my playing.

if a 'lesser' piano convinces others that its bosendorfer on a recording, it is because of...electronics that add or retract or amplify or stiffle certain freq or in some other way MANIPULATE the signal that comes into/from the microphone used for recording...

that is exactly what Jimm tried to prove with his parallel analisys of 3 (allegedly) greatly different amps...if you patiently change parameters of this and that in the amp...you can get it to sound like....another amp !

so...we agree that POS piano can sound like a bosendorfer once its been put through an amp and fiddled with ?

wouldn't you than tell people that played pianos solely through amps NOT to waste their money on a mighty Bosendorfer ?
(shall we include all instruments plugged into an amp...??? too early still...)

...you might like the ease of getting there on a different brand better but...you can get there with most if not all...!

You can cop the basic bitch "classic rock" tones that the vast majority of manufacturers cater to, and try to emulate. I know, I've heard that Bugera plexi clone, and its not the real thing but its deece.

Not knowing the difference between cheap amps that are made to emulate certain things, and expensive amps that have their own distinct sound, is why you're getting so much pushback.

If you disagree, please demonstrate a bunch of "blanks" that can sound like my Larry, or someone's Wizard, or a CCV, or a hermansson, or any other high end amp that's trying to do it's own thing, as opposed to copping the same old EVH/clapton/hendrix tones.
