Soldano Avenger

or with a more saggy flavour: Fuchs ODS

Is the Avenger same as SLO but the higher gain channel?

I've only played it once for about 30 minutes, but the experience stuck. It's like a darker, smoother version of the SLO, but retains its exceptional clarity and string separation while being smoother and easier to play.

I dug that amp so much!

Heard they also make it with a loop now, which makes it really interesting again!

Bogner XTC? Nitro possibly?

Given the fact that you have sykes as your avatar why not look into a boogie Mark series?

Never tried them. I tried Rectos, Roadsters and just do not like the one. I got the Marshall thing down just looking for something with a twist. Getting a 6505 for heavy stuff. Maybe that cold work miced right. Definitely interested in Avenger now tho.

Try them first, they're NOTHING like a Recto. I've had three rectos and while I like them for some things If I'd of gotten a Mk II, III or IV instead of that first Recto I'd probably still own it. They can take some tweaking, but they're one of the best lead amps ever created.

Hmm, yes. Also, aren't the Boogies supposed to be a *little* easier to play than the Bogner? That always contributes to a "greasy" lead to to me.

Like Marshall freak said, The Mark series are nothing like the rectos. Two entirely different amps both in tone and feel. Since you have the marshall thing down, you might want to look into the Mark series. Almost every amp that you mentioned is pretty much in a modded Marshall vein, thats why I suggest you look at the Marks.

I think the boogies are easier to play because of the SAG that they have and also that they seem wet right out of the gate with no effects. The cascading gain stages on the boog have a wet quality to them. Hard to describe but I think you know what I mean lol!

The man speaks the truth!

I recommend a Boogie also!! MKIII blue or red stripe would do the trick VERY nicely!!!

Dont be fooled by the fact you tried the Recto's and roadster, the MK series sounds completely different to those. If you listen to Sykes's tone on the 1987 album and also on the Blue Murder albums, that is a MKIII getting that huge lead tone!!

I play a 57RI Les Paul into my MKIII and i get total Sykes tone from this rig, use either G12H30's or Greenbacks and you will be there!!!

+1 to the Mark series

Also check out Egnater TOLs. When I think greasy lead, I think TOL.

+1 Mark III (sustain)

+1 Modena M90 (thick)

+1 Dorado (juicy)

all three are excellent lead amps

i may be the only one, but i have had or currently have one of everything   but i liked my mark iv second best to my.....diezel herbert :dunno: i guess just my guitars (normally anderson drop tops) and my hands just sit well on it. i can get a great thick woody lead tone on channel three with all kinds of rich harmonics. just my results.

Ok another trip back to Mesa shop for the MKIII I will give it a whirl. Modena sounds good too from what I have heard. Place nearby has one I believe alot of $$$ but worth checking into.

If you can, try the MKIII with a cab loaded with the Black Shadow MC90 speakers.. I'v heard great things about the MKIII + MC90 combination!

Gotta back my Brother up,... I'm a homo when it comes to what I can an cant play on, if it doesnt have 'hang time' an allow me a light touch for legato stuff, I'm fkd, and can basically pack an go home...  The boog was the 1st amp to let me 'let it breathe'... it's one of the few amps I don't have to Fight to get my shit out there, and one of a VERY select few I can play dry as a fkn bone an not feel 'naked' and alone....    and DEFINITELY thru MC90's......
