Best ear plugs?

None -/ because it’s too late for me !! 40 years of impact wrenches and 55 years of rock music— too late !! Just get louder amps!!!
That’s what I thought but not that long ago I was in a dive waiting for the band I wanted to see and it must have been shitty punk night leading up to said band. Shouting full lung into mics, loud crap tone, etc. Dude next to me discreetly hands me a new pair of orange foam plugs and smiles. I was so relieved.

The last big show I went to was Pantera in Kansas City. I brought a pair of ear plugs, like I use with a chainsaw. The buddy I went with has tinnitus worse than I. 70% loss in one ear. He didn't have any protection so I gave him mine. He said I saved his night.

I'm going to compare/contrast all of these and make a decision soon. Thanks all!

I've found this sort of thing to be best bang-for-buck.

I generally get good attenuation without major losses in frequency balance. Makes gigs a pleasure:

This one's available at Walmart apparently.

I used the good ol’ orange foam ones for ever so would probably just use them again. Every time I’ve tried anything with a set shape, I never get a good fit. It’s why I also don’t bother with any kind of ear buds and only use headphones for music.

Yeah, I really do love the foam ones.

Just twist 'em up into "sticks", insert them and they fluff back out, fitting perfectly-and-comfortably.

Now I completely get that!!! 😂

I have a bunch of those my man. That's what I normally use. Was looking for something that won't feel like it is going to pop out and something I can clean easily. Thanks for your reply tho bro.

I moved from Eargasm to Decibullz for the molded aspect. My primary application is driving race cars and I noticed that the combination of the eargasm with my helmet could lead to some reallllllly nasty buffeting when I would get a slight gap in the fitment that was basically worse than wearing nothing at all.

With the decibullz I bought two different sets to have different attenuation levels and have been pretty happy with them. Have used them on concerts and they are relatively even frequency response (bass still overpowering but not like the cheapy foam guys).

Long story short, my tinnitus came back after a few years break. Pretty sure that’s because I love to crank my amp’s volume a bit too much. Oopsie.

I am willing to invest in a pair of quality earplugs that both protects my ears, while letting enough sound so it’s still somewhat enjoyable.

So which ones are you using?

It’s good to know that i’m not the only one having to ask everyone to repeat every now and then 😂 Just kidding.

I am looking for suggestions for high fidelity earplugs. For example, I was looking at the Alpine’s. Reviews are pretty good.

I like good cotton rounds better than any ear plug I've ever tried. Push the cotton in deeper if you need more attenuation, pull it out if you need less attenuation. You can buy a big stack of them that'll last a year for a few bucks on amazon.

Tried this but i’ve found that it filters most of the sound and can get pretty boomy; as if it’s filtering the highs and most of the mids; while the low frequencies pretty much go straight through.

User error maybe? Only tried those once or twice while playing on a sh*t budget sound kit.

I tear the cotton rounds into thirds (approx) and then kinda roll them like you would a foam plug and insert to desired depth. Just my opinion but I found they pretty evenly and naturally attenuated everything to a level that made it comfortable. Never had a problem with boom. I've had people tell me they don't work at all but I mean, it's a physical object blocking your ear canal. Science says it works. For a few bucks it's worth a try. If it ain't any good then you can give them to your girl to remove her cosmetics with at night, lol.

similar thread

I had a similar thread and ended up buying a few different ones that I hope to be able to report on soon. FYI

@Maximus I merged your thread with Splawndude's one.

Earplug threads are rare-enough that I think this is justified, plus it's linked to the home page so you'll theoretically gain more exposure.

I think I'm gonna give the Eargasm's a shot.

We have the cheap disposable ones at work, and I've always kept some of those around.
