B'MAN/?
Erect/?

EG3/4 /?
MHG/?

If there was a best, we would all be using the same thing. ;)

You'll probably get 10 different people weighing in with 10 completely different answers.

I personally havent found my favorite yet, the search continues.

true, I guess I am tryng to ask
Have players found better combinations than others?
or ones that don"t work well?
thanks

Yeah, not going to get objective, definitive answers, however this could still be a fun thread.

My personal favorite module/guitar/pickup combinations (based on what I have played through at least) are below. NOTE: I have not found a single combination with Eggies yet that sounds bad....only different shades of good....

VX Ch A - PRS Standard 22 in coil tap/single coil mode w/Duncan JB/Jazz PUP combo
VX Ch B - McInturff Royal with P-90s
T/D clean sounds - Tie: McInturff Royal with P-90s and McInturff Taurus w/Duncan '59s in coil tap mode
T/D gritty sounds - PRS Standard 22 w/Duncan JB Bridge HB
SL Ch A - Tie: McInturff Royal w/P-90s and McInturff Taurus w/Duncan '59s in humbucking mode
SL Ch B - Tie: McInturff Taurus w/'59s and PRS Standard 22 w/ JB/Jazz PUPs
EG3/4 Ch A - McInturff Taurus w/'59s
EG3/4 Ch B - PRS Standard 22 w/ JB/Jazz PUPs
Erect/"other" Recto mods- Custom Warmoth strat-style guitar with Duncan Custom PUP (aka old "hair metal" gtr)

Yes,this could be a great thread,I'm still trying to figure out what I think is my favorite module tube comp. The pickups part is easy(MCP) hands down for me,The PTs is a 5881/E34Ls toss up and the PRE probably EH,Chinese and the Sovtek believe it or not.I think the Mod is just an outstanding piece of gear and still amazed at how well it does with mutiple combos of tubes and modules  "LONG LIVE EGNATER"

I've got my favorite pickup configs which sound good on all modules:

2 custom handmade mahogony body / flame maple custom shape (similar to strat-style with minor tweaks) guitars (flame maple neck / ebony fingerboard / nitro finish) w/ EMG 81 (bridge), EMG SA (middle), EMG SLV (neck)

1 custom handmade mahogony body guitar (gunstock oil finish / flame maple neck / ebony fingerboard)w/ EMG 81 (bridge), EMG SA (middle), EMG SLV (neck)

1 custom handmade mahogony body / flame maple top strat style guitar (flame maple neck / fingerboard / nitro finish) w/ EMG 85 (bridge), EMG SA (middle / neck)

1 heritage les paul guitar w/ MCP Afwayus humbuckers (bridge, neck)

1 Gretsch guitar (sounds AMAZING w/ the COD)

1 Yamaha Ty Tabor signature series w/ MCP Afwayus HSS set w/ the Humbucker being coil tapped

1 Fender American strat w/ MCP Vintage single coil set

I love all my guitars. Most people think EMG's are really hot and sterile sounding, but I really think they come alive w/ the Egnaters (not that they didn't previously though either). They roll off really well, and are VERY punchy and really translate the sound of the guitar to the amp. The MCP pickups are the best passive pickups I've ever had the pleasure of playing. No passive pickup sounds better than Wade's pickups honestly. He'll build you pickups to your exact specs, which is what he did w/ my Single coil set. You want it...he'll build it...

Damn you guys with these MCP pups. You're gonna make me go and buy a set if you don't shut up already!!! :gethim: ;)

I normally hate EMG's, but damn, the 89/60 combo is the best pickups config I've heard on the Erect.

The Suhr Aldrich + SL2 is :D

05 Les Paul with(MCP Solutions)EG/5 with sovteks and JJ E34Ls/6L6gc in stereo on RT/250 with 412 of Govs......OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, people either hate them or love them. I really do like EMG's. I've been using the for years. In the right guitar, they sound awesome! I use them in 4 guitars, and my bass. I've never been able to find anything that could stack up next to them until I found Wade and MCP :).

Thanks guys

they all sound killer and way above average

I love to hear what is really over the top extrodinary.
the below quote from eric sounds like a stellar (got the "it" factor going on) combo
"1 Gretsch guitar (sounds AMAZING w/ the COD)"

not discounting any of the other combos, just love to hear what stands out.

For me VX Ch B with ANY guitar w/ P-90s absolutely rules. That is a stand out tone in my rig.....

I believe you are correct. I think MarK Day on youtube has an EMG 81 and the EMG SPC presence control in his les Paul. That and the Seminar amp for sure has the "It" factor.
