I've got a kent armstrong version of a hotrail which meets your criteria max. I put it in the neck of my jackson and it is as smooth as glass.
These do look interesting. Not only do they have higher DC resistances than SD or DiMarzios but they also offer Alnico V magnets as well. I've been thinking of trying something different than the Air Norton S neck with similar output but more interesting tone, a Kent Armstrong rail might do it.

I have no idea what amps you are using as you don't say, so this is just from me with a similar goal.

I use a Peavey 6505+ through Marshall 1960s, a Marshall JVM410h with Mesa Recto cabs and a TSL100 through a pair of 1960AV cabs.

I have two strats, a standard MIM and a USA American Deluxe. Both are SSS config now - I did play around with humbuckers and the like, but a strat is a strat, right?

Currently the MIM is loaded up with EMG SA pickups. I know you said no passive but they are the best single coils you can get in a strat - and the MIM isn't even set up to do metal. It's my clean tones/bluesish guitar.

My American Fender has two scratchplates - one loaded with Fender Fat 60s and one with a Dimarzio FS1 in the bridge, a Blue Velvet in the middle and a Red Velvet in the neck. To be honest, I had the blue velvet lying around, but I quite like it mixed with the Red Velvet.

Of those, I would rank the EMGs top. Second, I would go for the Dimarzio FS1. I used to top the Fender Fat 60s for smooth lead tones and precise riffing, but the FS1 is pretty much the same but a little more forgiving especially on the Peavey.

I've been through a lot of single coils; most of the Seymour Duncan lineup, the Kinmans, Laces and thought I'd found what I wanted in the Fat 60s.

Dimarzio Pro Track! Call it done. I used a hum to single conversion plate and put one of these pups in a les paul.
Killer mid range tone. Lots of output. This is what Satch is using in his 2400 Ibanez.

Itold my buddy at DiMarzio I needed a neck pickup for fluid solo's. He recomended the BC-1 neck. It's a dual blade high output single coil spaced pickup... I love it!!!

He asked for single coil and everybody suggests rails. Hmm... single coils can do metal. It doesn't have to be a high output humbucker to sound good. I generally like my neck pickup to be semi-bright and less output than my bridge.

you can have it if you want it. i think it's still mounted in the neck of my dk2. i don't even play anymore-not even sure where the guitar is for that matter.

You read right! Throw'em at me!

I want a smooth lead, smooth with lots of upper midrange!

PASSIVE! btw.

GO!

Interesting that you want it for the neck position.

Lace Sensor "Red". That's the ticket for single coil with hot output.
Very smooth, plenty of mid, but that also depends on your amps settings.
It's also a very quiet pup, so you can crank the gain on your amp and GO!

I have a 1991 Strat Plus Deluxe that came with a red, blue, and silver.
All 3 are great, and all sound very different from each other, and I like that very much.
Red is in bridge and into a high gain amp it can rip, and thunder.

Hi everyone this is my first post. I just bought a hot (12k) hand wound single coil neck pickup for my USA Hamer Californian from primaguitarshop.com. I wanted it to be loud enough to compete with the dimazio super distortion in the bridge. I took a punt on it and couldn't be happier. No mud at all. It has heaps of top end for a pickup of this output and sweetens up beautifully with the volume rolled down. It works well with all my pedals too (vintage fuzz boxes included). It's a perfect pairing with the SD and sounds really raw and bluesy. You can hear my little demo of it here.

BKP trilogy. I've got one in the bridge of my strat and its epic, takes any gain thrown at it, I imagine the neck would be just as a good.

I used to have some dimarzio cruiser's (Bridge Model) in the neck and middle of my Michael wilton ESP. great pickups. Warm, rich, defined with tons of clarity and they had a lot of output. worth a try

If you want Loud and output
The Seymour hotrails
It's as loud and balances with my sh5
Bridge

SD stk-7

I think noobs think they have to only use high output pickups for metal.

Is ir a single coil sized route? Can ir fit hum sized? If so go with a hot hum sized p90.

I would hope after 11 years he's found what he's looking for
