As most of you guys know , it takes some speaker movement before most speakers sound good.
Before that they can sound flat and congested.
At least that’s the case with what I have..

I’m looking to load one of my cabs with something that starts to give up the goods at a less than loud conversation level.
Or at least not sound flat and congested.
Any suggestions??

Something with low efficiency. I’ve always thought the G12M and G12-65 sounds nice at low volumes. And four of a speaker in a 4x12 will sound better at low volumes than fewer speakers in a smaller cab IME.

I'd suggest an EVM12L. Those things can go super loud, but I find that they aren't too bad at low volumes as well in terms of reproducing your amp tone.

Do note, if you're expecting to get the results you'd expect from a cranked amp, it is impossible. As you said, it takes some movement of the speakers to get that tone.

But the EVMs do a good job of reproducing the amp tone at lower volumes, based on my Thiele cab. YMMV IMHO and all that.

From what I know, WGS speakers tend to have more cone activity than most. I think it has to do with tight gap tolerances. For some that's a detriment because they can then be more flubby at higher volume. What amp power and cab are you using, and what kind of speaker sound are you after?

Heritage GB, or EVH version which is literally the same speaker but cheaper ;)

I have found the lower efficiency rating like the greenback need to be pushed harder with more volume to sound their best whereas my 12H-30 heritages are more consistent and balanced at lower volume levels. The greenback is 96DB versus the 100DB sensitivity rating of the 12H-30. I have tried to like Greenbacks for many years. Having owned almost every iteration of greenback... blackbacks, MIE6402, heritage, Scumback except real vintage pulsonic coned and I just prefer the 12h-30's.

I play mostly Marshall plexi's, superleads and modded Marshalls.

And if that doesn't work you can do what I did a few months ago, switch to an AX8, and some studio monitors. I only play at home, and this setup is just awesome!! I can play at really quiet volume levels, and it still sounds awesome. It even sounds really good through headphones.
