I'm putting a Strat together for the daughter of a friend who just killed himself on Sunday. Obviously a guitar won't change what's happened but she expressed interest in playing before so maybe it would at least be something to give her some happiness. So I ordered a prewired pickguard from dragonfireguitars.com a few days ago. I emailed today to find out about my tracking information for the order and was told that my order hasn't even been started and that it won't be started until next week. I was disappointed because he made no mention on his site that they are made to order. I need to cancel the order and go source out the parts locally. Not ideal, since the wired pickguard was reasonably priced, but whatever. It's not the end of the world. I figured I'd get a refund and everything would be fine.

Here's the transcript after being informed about the delay. His replies are bold.

Ah ok. I'd like to go ahead and cancel my order then. Thank you.

No,
It is already invoiced. It cannot be canceled.

Thank you,
KC Steele

OK, well then I'll be forced to open up a Paypal dispute then, which isn't ideal for anyone. Thanks.

Do it,
And see what happens. You will wait LONGER. And it will close when it is delivered. We have 7 days to respond. So we can ship it on the 7th day.
Is that really what you want?

Thank you,

Yep. Typing the dispute now. Keep an eye out for some reviews of your business practices on the online forums as well.

Sure,
No issue at all. Join the masses of forum trolls. Stopped reading them a long time ago. Business is going up every year.

No problem jerkoff

Name calling will not help either. You will get your order, MUCH later now. You only affect yourself.

You're being an ass. You haven't even started my order and I politely asked for a refund and you refused. Paypal can handle it now.

Your order is in the queue, and it is being wired. But I do not have a ship date. But it is invoiced, and very well could be done. But now, oh yes, you will wait. Unless you close your case, it will wait.

Thank you,
KC Steele

And I will upload tracking, and it will close. So the choice is yours on how to proceed.

Not happening. Called Paypal and escalated it to a claim. Looks like you're not getting your money until I receive the pickguard. I needed the pickguard by Monday (which I assumed would be plenty of time since I ordered it on Tuesday) to wire up a guitar I put together for a late friend's daughter. Since you couldn't accommodate I need to go elsewhere locally to get this thing built. I'm not sure why you had to be so difficult about it considering you even said the pickguard wasn't started.

Well whatever. No need to email me back any more. The rest of our contact can be through the Paypal resolution center. Way to earn repeat business.

Repeat business?

Seriously. You were blocked the second you THREATENED a case. As for the $$, Paypal does not hold our funds. Your $48 dollars is not going anywhere. And you will receive your order as soon as it gets there. And no contact is needed in PAypal either. All they want is the tracking, which they have.

Thank you,
KC Steele

Wow, that dude is an ass.

He invoiced a product that wasn't even built yet.
That's typical of people and business's people should avoid.
I'll make sure to avoid this guy if I decide to mod my Strat.

I hope Paypal holds the funds on him.
Plus, I can't believe that he is directly telling you that now he will make you wait even longer since you asked to cancel.
He's clearly vindictive, and he's putting it in writing.
What a nutball.

So is this Ken, the "owner" a different person?
If so, he needs to fir that KC person.

I had a similar experience with one of those magazine companies.
They wanted me to renew my subscriptions.
But, I had already renewed my subscriptions just a few months ago with another company.
He tells me that I need to renew anyway as he can extend the time period
I told him I didn't want to as I had renewed for 3 years and got a great price.
He insisted and said my card would be charged anyway as I was due for renewal.
I told him that my card company would reverse the charges anyway so why bother.
He laughed and said "they" have ways to make sure I would be charged and that I should go ahead and file a dispute as it would do me "no good" in the end.
Well, it sure did do good as the charge never appeared on my card as they blocked it before it happened.
That's one reason to make sure you have a good card company that's proactive like that.

My best wishes for you and your friends family.
May he now at least find peace.

I actually had to read that twice to believe it. I can't believe the attitude he gave you. All I can say is wow. Sorry to hear about the issues. I know I will never order anything from there. Thanks for the heads up.

Apparently Ken is the owner and KC is a tech there. If that was my company he'd be an ex-tech.

Who says posting on the internet won't do any good? Ken, the owner of the company emailed me and apologized profusely. He said a refund should have been given when I asked. He refunded my money and all is good. I feel that the owner obviously cares and he did the right thing. I just want to make sure everyone knows that the outcome was acceptable to me and don't want to leave it open ended as to how things ended.

Glad to hear it ended in a satisfactory way. However, I do maybe 4-5 partscasters a year and this company will never see my money.

Who were you dealing with beforehand?
I haven't dealt with anyone before. I've never even built a partscaster before. Was just piecing it together from stuff I had lying around. That said, I'll probably look elsewhere for my next partscaster.

Yeah, it was a weird situation with that guy.

Thanks for the kind sentiments. I appreciate it.

You should post this on every guitar related forum.

There are plenty of great small business to deal with. That guy is not one of them.

If it helps, my brother has a MIM fender strat pickguard (HSS) with a Bill Lawrence and 2 stck Fender single coils I will just send you.FREE

"Sorry, it's already been invoiced, it's impossible." It's a variation, but I like the way it sounds. I'm going to start using that one.

Whoever was answering your emails should be fired. If the owner allows an employee like that to continue working for him, there's a problem.

I'd agree with this...that's just nutty to refuse a refund when you haven't even started the build.

I'd forward all of that to PayPal so they know how this guy is abusing/working the system.

Yes, I would let Paypal know what he is up to.

Not only this, but the guy kept saying he was going to be punished with a longer wait time. Absolutely ridiculous.

I found this board while researching pups for a strat build I am doing. I was seriously considering a pre-loaded Dragonfire p/g but found this thread and then many more similiar experiences with this company.
Looks like I will be going with GFS or a Ebay private seller. Great board btw !

It's a shame because I had a great experience with them with my order
