I prefer to listen to blues over rock (if you by rock you mean some type of metal, thrash, punk or pop - wtf is rock these days anyway). I can't listen to rock except in small doses and then I have to turn it off. For example, I like listening to the Ramones but to play it it's very mindless and easy. Re: metal it may not be easy but it's kind of sterile as well especially when it's just like playing scales over a wall of sound. After decades of listening and playing blues I am a bit "bluesed out" as well though. As for the thread title, I think blues is more raw, pure and has more "feeling" than rock whatever feeling is. Massive generalisations here of course - how else do you talk about this. Now that I'm getting old I've moved to fingerstyle. That also can be repetitive after you've practiced something thousands of times.
What is even more depressing is how seemingly irrelevant a lot of guitar music is to young people these days. I don't even recognise popular music these days. If you don't know what I mean Beato on youtube talks about that a bit I guess.
