I prefer to listen to blues over rock (if you by rock you mean some type of metal, thrash, punk or pop - wtf is rock these days anyway). I can't listen to rock except in small doses and then I have to turn it off. For example, I like listening to the Ramones but to play it it's very mindless and easy. Re: metal it may not be easy but it's kind of sterile as well especially when it's just like playing scales over a wall of sound. After decades of listening and playing blues I am a bit "bluesed out" as well though. As for the thread title, I think blues is more raw, pure and has more "feeling" than rock whatever feeling is. Massive generalisations here of course - how else do you talk about this. Now that I'm getting old I've moved to fingerstyle. That also can be repetitive after you've practiced something thousands of times.

What is even more depressing is how seemingly irrelevant a lot of guitar music is to young people these days. I don't even recognise popular music these days. If you don't know what I mean Beato on youtube talks about that a bit I guess.

I reckon if you knock another muso you have to post your own playing up. Look up the top 40 at the moment and find a decent guitar based band. I have no idea what's in the top 40 at the moment but I'm prepared for you to surprise me.

I am not quite sure what you are on about. But i would win any competition with beato besides being a fucking douche. He has that one well in hand.

Not sure why this hurts you so much. Also, i dont think top 40 has ever been a good way to find a good song.

Blues will always be a foundation of modern rock and metal guitar...I am a huge fan of the shred genre..started with EVH/Lynch/Rhoads/Malmsteen...etc..etc...Every one of those guys "quoted" if you will maaaaaaaany ancient blues licks in their playing .Nothing wrong with blues in my book...Pretty amazing how you can have any guy...Howlin Wolf..BB..SRV...Clapton..play the same 5 notes and they reveal totally different tones and personality...but that really applies to any guitar style.....pentatonic to 3 Note per string scales.. Bending and vibrato.. staples of the blues..are two of the most defining things in a guitar players "voice".
