Bogner Ecstasy 50w Excursion => Somebody please explain!

I have had far too many Bogners...something like 6 Ecstasies and a Telos (still have that and love it) and a Helios and I'm probably forgetting something. Anyway, I have this Ecstasy 50w which sounds pretty dang good. I really like it, running through a Bogner 1x12 with a Scumback blackback (BM75-65w). Again, sounds killer.

I am trying to understand the excursion switch. It isn't like the one on the big boy XTC. It is doing something else. Negative feedback, bass response...someone tell me what is actually happening in the circuit! Please.

Deep, Loose, and Tight. I've been using T.

The excursion is speaker cabinet dampening. Like the old Peavey Triple XXX's. It does just as described, regarding the reaction in conjunction with the speakers.

Those are killer heads, and I've almost talked myself into buying another one. That, or a Helios 50. The loop volume on the XTC 50 is fantastic for low volume/late night.

I can't remember where I set mine when I had it, once I did, I left it. I played more with the voicing/EQ switches.
 
Yeah, the loop on the 101b I had to stop using for sessions because it wasn't transparent enough and I couldn't get that last 10%. This loop is on par with Friedman & Metropoulos (the gold standard for me). Plus the secondary master it provides with full transparency is amazing.

So, Mr. NapalmDeath...with the excursion...which setting is adding/subtracting NFB in the power amp?

I couldn't tell you. I used my ears, and really didn't care about the scientifics. Did you get a manual with it? I think it lays it all out, atleast mine did, (bought it brand new).
 
I've always assumed it was just a Depth control, basically a low frequency negative feedback control, but put on a 3 position switch instead of a knob. That's what it sounds like to me anyway.
 
On the 101B the excursion switch changes between different negative feedback settings in combination with capacitors to tailor the low end.

Tight = High NFB, no cap (I think)
Medium = Less NFB, cap that allows some low end through
Loose = Least NFB, large cap for most low end

Someone correct me if I’m wrong. Not sure how the 50W version differs.
 
Except it has changed from the 101b, to Deep, Loose, and Tight. That's what's throwing me off. LOL

I just want to know what is going on with "Deep"? Because it also changes the highs. I get "Loose" and "Tight".

Yeah, in a nutshell. It definitely fine-tunes the bottom end from spongier to to tighter. Just as the settings imply.
 
Deep to me implies ‘like a Depth knob’ so that implies a cap and resistor in parallel then in series with the NFB.

Loose/tight sounds more NFB related to me.

Which leaves the question; is Deep loose or tight wrt NFB? My guess would be that Deep is not loose. But how tight?

I would say it's some type of fixed Depth and fixed NFB settings. Vintage setting would imply more negative feedback like 47K Marshall Plexi NFB resistor on the 8 ohm tap would impart a cleaner tighter tone versus less negative feedback provided by a 100K NFB resistor on the 4 ohm tap in a Marshall Superlead which would impart a looser rattier tone.
