Bogner Ecstasy tones - How different are they from a BE 100

I have a Friedman BE 100 and love the tones I can get out of it. But would like to get a new amp that will allow me to play 80's hair metal, hard rock and some progressive rock music with a different tone flavor. I use Scumback speakers in my 4x12.

Would a Bogner Ecstasy give me a different tone flavor than the Friedman? Maybe an Ecstasy with 6L6's? Engl and Diezel also come to mind, but don't have any experience with them. Anyway, any feedback you can provide is much appreciated.

80s hair metal is a JCM800 with a boost in front.

XTC is a lot of amp and can likely easily conjure 80s hair-band rock with the gain dimed on the Blue Channel and maybe a boost in front. But that'd be sacrilege - lol - just for 80s hair band music. But ya, it'll get you there, but it's a tone machine. 80s doesn't strike me as an era of "tone" more so than hairspray and devil art on album covers. But kidding aside - Scorpions, Dio, Maiden, Poison, Cinderella, Twisted Sister, Priest, Motley...it was all Marshall and boost.

I know about the JCM 800 and a boost. Just looking for something that will give me a differemt tone flavor from what I get with the BE 100.

To me, the BE100 while versatile is not as complex or rich as the XTC. to this day the XTC is still my favorite amp, but I think the BE would get the nod for 80's hair metal

Go with a PRS Archon.
really different then the Marshall. Kicks ass on all levels.

Mo is spot on but the XTC will do all that without a problem but with a Bogner flavor.
XTC is a hell of a channel switcher, to me the best i ever came across- still i loved my JVM and YJM too.
I found the BE is killer too but if i had to pick i would take the XTC.
By the way i have an XTC with El 34.
Here is a killer demo of a fellow Rig talk member:
Here a killer Demo with 6L6

Not exacly 80`s metal but i think you get the picture.

Fixed the vids for ya!

That AiC vid is mine. I recorded it with my 20th Anniv XTC with 6l6 tubes. It is still one of my very favorite amps ever. It didn't just approximate tones...it defined them. I would easily take another 20th Anniv XTC. IMO, that amp could do it all.

Seems that the Bogner is the one favored. Take that the Diezel and Engl are too modern sounding?

It's a masterpiece. The "Swiss Army" knives of amps worldwide. Big claim, but I'll stand behind it 100%

Great clips BTW, absolutely fkn great clips!!!

Ya know?? Thought I recognized them inner thighs.
Just didn't wanna seen like a show off.
Fuckin KILLER RECORDING!!

20th Shiva is another good option, but that BE100 should already be kicking all kinds of ass for what you're describing

The BE 100 is a great amp. i've had it for 5 years and I get killer tones out of it. Just want to try something new and maybe complement the Friedman.

I owned a BE100 and a 101b together for about a year. I agree the 101b is a superb amp and the 3 channels and the foot switching options make it the ultimate gigging rig.
But what I found is that side by side, just trying to dial in one tone at a time, the 101b and the BE100 were actually pretty similar, and I was choosing the BE100 about 85% of the time. They just weren't different enough, so I sold the 101b to a buddy who is gigging a ton in a couple of different bands, and he's thrilled with it.
The best Yin to the Friedman BE100 Yang I've come across would be a Wizard MCII. Absolutely on the other end of the spectrum from the BE100. They go together like peanut butter and jam. For the music you describe, you could also look at an SLO, or just get an 800 and boost it. If your stuck on a Bogner XTC, I'd look at the 20th over the 101b to compliment the BE100.

Agreed very much. To be different try an MC2. Different feel and tone that complements perfectly.

I have an ecstasy 101b and it nails 80's and a lot more.
I also have a Helios and it nails 80's and more as well, it's a bit more raw and gritty les refined , a little less gain but still enough.
I'm sure if you play that style you can make quite a few amps nail the sound.
although the Helios is special the ecstasy has to be one of if not the most versatile amps made !
imho
