Better keep your Winged C supply up Laura. Getting a lot of traffic directed your way.

Steve
I am almost out. Will be getting a new order in tomorrow. The SED EL34 is my biggest seller.

Sounds like a good thing! Keep them Ruby's coming too. The front end of the Bogner's love the AC7 and HG+

Steve
I haven't purchased the AC7's yet. How do they compare to the AC5 tonally? I have to place my Ruby order too so if there is something worth adding, let me know.

duh....had ax7 on the brain. i meant AC5 Select.

Gotcha. I just put in the orders today so more Ruby AC5 HG's and SED EL34's are on the way (as well as quite a few other tubes that I ran low on).

I have a feeling you will be having a lot of new and repeat customers, awesome all the way around. Also love all of your amps in the pics I have seen. You have quite the stable. The EL34's biased up perfect and sound great. I took today off of work just to play all day, that is 3 full 8+ hour days of playing with the EL34's and they are sounding incredible to me. I still love the KT88's as well in the TJ, but the EL34's just sound incredible.

The GAS. Fred, where is my TJ? The dealer ordered it five weeks ago. Should be soon. Bogner is busy these days. I will convert it right away. I don't need to experiment all that much. Too many respected guys say it kills with the 34's. I'm in. I don't need to learn the hard way.

I was amazed at how much better my Uber sounded with EL34's. My buddy un-modded the KT88 mod on mine so I should get it back this week.

Thanks for the kind words...now post some clips!!!!!

I am waiting on a Pro Tools interface from Sweetwater and the clips and video will be on its way. I am also discussing a pedalboard with LASD that I will want to get video of in the near future. I am anxious to finish up a few things by end of year and do no buying next year, just writing and playing out with the band. I will be on a 6 beano a day diet. LOL

So the Twin Jet comes Stock with KT-88's or can you have a choice to get the EL34's in it?

I really dont care much for KT-88's in any amp.
But just a presonal prefference. ;)

You can order one with 34's and pay more. Or, get a better deal on floor stock and do it yourself. We were all going to send our Sovtek 88's back to Reinhold

Hey Dan, You havn't tried the old Genelex KT88. For a thousand a quad, you can just buy a new amp. I have some vintage Tung-Sol 6550 in my JMP Friedman that killed the el34's I tried in it. It may have been that I didn't do all of the resistor swaps except the bias splitter. Tough to get under the board wirh the mods. Too much desoldering. I can't see how putting in the 220k grid leaks instead of my 150k can make a huge difference. I could be wrong. Can't wait to swap the TJ though.

Easy stuff to convert. Bogner piggybacks two resistors for that reason in R402. The bottom is a 33 and the top a 22. Req = 14 when paralleled for a KT88 bias range. Snip the top resistor off and it puts you in the 34 range. But, you need to have a matched quad with PC range of 38-42 or close. The bias adjust is only about 180 degree's and it has a tight range. Go lower or higher on the tube rating, you will be out of range. So, get on to Laura and tell her you need Steve's SED Matched Quad of SED's for the TJ.

I feel like I got lucky when I converted mine. I threw in an old 90's (with relatively low hours) quad of Winged C 34's and after snipping the top resistor at 401 (402 actually corresponds to the single resistor position underneath the two piggybacked ones I think...at least on mine) was able to bias into the lower to mid 20 range as I like a colder bias then what most people prefer.

This particular quad of 34's was sourced to work within my old Dual Rectifier's '34 bias range believe it or not.

I am new to a lot of this stuff, regarding bias, etc... Can I ask why you prefer a colder range and tonally what difference does it make. Curious....

I ordered up a quad from Laura today. Playing with the amp more, I am not sure about converting it. I put in a new quad of Gold Lion 88's. Swapped a few pretubes out and this thing roars. I cranked up the global master and turned down the preamp. My house almost exploded from the Thunder. Right now the only GAS I am trying to control is for another guitar. Why do I need another guitar? Pay your bills moron. I barely touch my Vigier. Sold the LPC for the same reason. I want another Suhr Modern, but I am not waiting 7 months for the wood combo I would want. I miss the Marshall but the Cornford covers it well.
I am not at all dissapointed with the TJ or else it would already be listed in the classifieds.

We wouldn't lead you astray

= Epic Win. The 88's are back in thier boxes. I actually desoldered the resistor rather than snipping it. It is tight but a pencil point tip did the job.

Echoes from over here. No love loss regarding this amp at all, playing everything on it currently and just digging it like the day I got it, well more with the EL34 conversion. So far the only FX I have even used with it is the Strymon El Capistan Delay and a Eternity Kanji, some cool tones that cover some serious ranges of music!!

Glad your digging the conversion!!

It's rare for me to not change things back after trying it because I didn't find too much of a positive difference. With this conversion I am fairly certain there is no looking back. Ususally going from big bottles to small takes away too much punch and tightness. Not the case with the Twin Jet. BTW Steve, The Vintage 30 and K-100 X combo rocks with this amp.
