Bogner uber ultra extreme fantastique- i'm not entirely sold, your thoughts, if any?

after playing this amp for the last idk hour or so,

it fucking slays

i don't know what to think of the above about kt88 vs el34s etc

there might be some truth to that, given a lower wattage would make the power amp section easier to dial without killing yourself neighbors and most importantly your ears

yeah the mortamorph is alien tech still but very similar to what has been mentinoed above, subtle not so much depending

as for the cocked way sound,

yeah it's heavy in this amp and i've been an off and on again fan of the sound, but off for the last 10 years so maybe i don't like it at all

i switched from analysis plus cables because they gave a cocked wah sound, it's a strange feature of the cables frankly

compared to other amps I find it difficult to get rid of this blanketed cab sound, yes i understand how to use the density, but it's harder than i think lesser amps in my opinion, where with other amps this isn't a problem

takes boosts differently as well

it's very unique and different so yeah idk what else

i had my first impressions and i'm assuming said opinoins will continue to change, like life hopefully

We picked one up last week (EL34). Haven't had heaps of play time but straight up this is an excellent new instalment in the Uber franchise. Yeah there is more to tweak than your regular amp, but it's all laid out well.

I haven't peaked inside yet but my best guesses on the controls are:

- Metamorph seems to just be a LPF in Fat mode, and a HPF in Tight. The former might be useful for lead tones on bright guitars, and the latter is akin to using a bass-cut type pedal upfront. Sure it can be set subtle, but it has a pronounced effect at higher settings.
- Density is NFB control similar to Excursion on other Bogners (Contour on Wizards, Response on Friedman etc). Nothing new or fancy here.
- Presence modes are probably just different pres cap values, although the effect is more significant than you'd normally expect - not too sure. Pick one and leave it, otherwise you'll be tweaking endlessly.
- Can't remember if the boost is just level or there's some HPF in play. Either way it sounds good, and is a nice addition if you don't want to bother with pedals.

The higher gain Uber OG and Ultra tones are fantastic - tight, articulate and gain for days. I think I prefer it to our Rev Blue actually, need some more time.

I wasn't too fussed on the mid gain rock tones (Crunch mode). Fine but nothing outstanding. With more tweaking I think it could get there, but setting up the power amp controls for a great high gain tone paints you into a corner with the cleaner tones. Always a trade-off in multi-channel / mode amps.

I just got mine (EL34) last week. I love it!

I’ve noticed, i prefer passive pickups with this amp. It makes the amp shine. It’s getting quickly to modern with active pickups. Not the case with my other Ubers.
 
Has anybody compares between a UU vs Rev Green or original uber.... if the UU set on Uber or any else how close is the UU on getting the tones of the rev Green or Original Uber?

I have both a UU and Original Uber. The UU really is to me it's own thing that is a lot tighter, way more modern and cutting. The original, while a lot darker, has a special chewiness, warmth, and richness to its tone and greasy feel that isn't in the cards for the UU. It's the polar opposite in that regard. Different animals imo, but both have the overall Uber growl when you play a powerchord. The Rev Green I'd have to revisit
 
I have a Rev 2/Rev Blue/UU, i didn’t compare them yet.

Hard to tell because the tubes are different in all of them. I’m still tweaking and learning stuff on the UU.

From my limited experience with the UU. The OG and Rev 2 are special for the reasons braintheory just described. But i think the UU could do the Rev Green thing at 95% and much more.

The UU has a pretty high noise floor, that’s to be expected with so much gain involved. That’s probably the only downside i can see. But nothing a good noise gate can’t tame.

I’m still in the honeymoon phase, but damn that amp is awesome!
 
I have the 6L6 version. Had the very early 6550 version and all of them since. This one can get dark and thick and have the grease if you play with combinations of Hair switch and depth and density combined with uber and fat and doom switches and the metamorph knob. I was just getting feedback at will at talking levels. Quiet talking levels. Amazing amp.

This pretty much sums it up. The UU can get close to a Rev Green, but there’s something totally unique about the tone the Rev Green has in its organic, 3D tone that just can’t be replicated.
