So I own a uber rev.blue and have a chance to trade from a year old xtc 101b.
my question is what do you guys think would sound best...a bogner red pedal through the clean of the uber or
a uber pedal through the clean of the xtc?
I want to best from both lol.
My tastes are early 80's on...early motley cure and metallica to modern stuff.

Uber isn't really my bag but I love my 101B. Extremely versatile and if you run the excursion full and play a 4x12 with 75s you should be able to get the thump thing happening.

I own both an uber and an Ecstacy 101b
My opinion is the Ecstacy is way better then the Uberschall at most things
Very versatile you have three Chanel's a plexu mode and a lot of dialing that can change things vastly.
From country to metal and all thing in between.

The uber is great for dropped turnings and brutal metal .
I personally can't stand the überkab with the mix of 30's and 75's
First thing I'm gonna do is yank out the 75's and replace them
With lynchbacks . I have a bogner cab with all vintage 30's
And like it much better but I want the überkab to sound a little different
So I will try the x pattern with the lynchbacks.
I think if you can trade straight accross for the Ecstacy I would go fo it !!
Best of luck !!
Jim

If you can get an Ecstasy in a straight trade for an Uber, do it, and think about the rest later ;)

Kidkramer , did you ever mix the lynchbacks and v30's?
How did they sound?

Do it, IMHO way more tone and versatility.... I just sold off a bunch of stuff and my old ecstasy is the only amp I'm keeping

Tpruitt, I don't have lynchbacks yet that is my next purchase and the plan is a v30 lynchback mix when I do it I will let you know .

I'd go for it, The 101B is a monster amp. Quite versatile.

Well that deal fell through.I have a few Marshall's on the chopping block.I think I've talked myself into finding a xtc 20th over a 101b.

Good choice. I liked the 101b, but love the 20th. Make sure you get it with 6L6 tubes (the stock configuration). You can also get it with the Class A mod if you like that sorta thing.

I was wondering the same thing.I think 34's would give you more grind.

Oh... why?

Because the boutique capacitors that are used add a lot of midrange. The amp was designed to perform around 6L6 tubes, so that it has a really full sound. I bought mine with 34's and it was slightly boxy in the midrange and more compressed. I moved to KT77's - more open and really nice. I currently have my XTC at Bogner's HQ to have the 6L6 swap done (output transformer swap/tubes). Best to go with the builder's intent here. I'm not slagging the EL34 version - it was killer, but from talking to other people who have tried both versions - most agree that the tone and feel are better with 6L6's.

Thanks for the info se7en.
tubes and output tranny now thats gonna be expensive!

I did some research before getting mine (maybe 6-12 months ago) and people seemed to prefer the EL34 version
But then again, who knows with the internet. I suspect those people might not have tried the 6L6 version and say EL34 is better because of the 101B fame and higher price.

Here's what Jorg @ Bogner said on why they went with 6L6's after building the 101b around EL34's:

"The amp was designed with the 6L6 compliments the circuit better, the sozo and dijon caps have more girth and midrange, EL34 will pronounce that more.
Some people just need to have EL34's no matter what, I had both, people converting liking it better and others converting back, guess personal taste, we prefer the 6L6's."

Business: I'll report back with my findings.

Hmm.. Interesting.

Adding current 101b 6L6 to the "must try" list. And KT77...
