That's pretty much what I've heard. It supposedly sounds more upper mid Marshally and harder I believe. Haven't tried a Classic but I've read alot about the two. That and you loose some of the excursion and or bright options I believe.

Yes... The knob is for decoration... you fuck.. .LOL! :D

All this XTC talk made me go plug into my Classic... mmmm... .nice!
Blue Channel + OD808.

I think replacing the bridge pickup in my Axis with a JB was the best thing I've done in a while
guitar-wise... :D

Hey Dale,

I tried a Classic along side my 101B for a few days, it didn't take long to make up my mind though.

These are just my thoughts and perceptions from having them side by side. The 101b is fatter, has more saturation and is much easier to play. It felt like I was plugged into the LO gain input! The Classic is more open and it is still great but the 101B is much better for me. Also, because the Classic doesn't have dual assignable presence and excursion switches I found it noticeably less versatile.

Cool! I was thinking along the right lines. I figure if I buy another one new, I will not want to get rid of it. I've settled into what I like as far as amps are concerned. I've owned three 101B's. All were great in their own way, but I really like the newer 101B's like JB has at the moment.

I'll probably call Stu at Fat Sound to see when they're expecting their next shipment of 101B's.

Thanks for chiming in! Sorry for my mini-hijack of your thread, JB. :)

Like has been said, the 101b is a little more saturated, slightly less higher mids, and yeah, probably easier to play too. I really liked my 101b w/ a LP, and not so much with my strat. I find the Classic handles s/cs and hb/s equally well and is a little more marshally and more transparent. Both are great amps, but it depends what you want. I would also say the 101b is a touch more modern while the Classic is a bit more open and aggressive. These things are subjective, but I personally like all 3 channels better.

Are you talking about the newer 101b with the high gain mod or the older versions?
