Simply G12-65. There are some really old ones with the '444' bass cone. Avoid those at all costs.

All V30s use the 444 cone as well, and while it doesn't have much true high end, its still so upper mid oriented and present that most don't consider it a dark speaker.
No I don't like the CL80s at all, but I loved the original G12-80s that they're based on. I only tried them once and they were amazing.
Is everything Ok ? I haven't seen you much on the forums lately.
Are you still using that Audix I5 ? If not perhaps you'd like to sell it ?
Oh no, I shouldn't have even asked! I really want to try some now.thegame":wwrfpi3m said:BrentSP":wwrfpi3m said:I know this question wasn't for me but I believe they are very similar to a greenback.......kinda like a higher powered greenback I believe.
Pretty much. Both speakers have almost the same crunchy mid frequency, but the 65 has alot more low mid beef and the top end is quite a bit smoother/less grainy. I love them to death

Maybe its the 1777 cones I'm thinking of....its been a long time since I really paid any attention
Yeah things are ok, been helping out with a bunch of family stuff and band stuff....went out of town a couple weeks ago which was fun....picked up my old Marshall in the pic.
I still use the I5 for live and some for recording. I always have to pair it with something that is not as scooped sounding when recording. Its a somewhat strange mic
I think its a '68......very LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SQUAREHEAD":cmrsqlgu said:Greazygeo":cmrsqlgu said:thegame":cmrsqlgu said:Well its not so much the cones themselves, but when they're part of G12-65 recipe. Hey JB! Here is the info on the G12-65's I got from Celesstion this morning:J.B.":1gzhce7h said:Oh no, I shouldn't have even asked! I think its a '68. Its a 10000 series ser# plexi panels, laydown transformer, missing the tremolo circuitboard and jack. Other than that its pretty cool. Just alittle over 2K. Bought it back off my friend that I sold it to many years ago...he hasnt used it in about 12 years. Also got a Marshall 1960A JCM 800 w 75's and it actually sounds pretty good!SQUAREHEAD":1jjmt7wm said:Nice!!
Cost you a ton??

Excellent, thanks mang! Sounds like my type of speaker. Great......Greazygeo":1hn2vi1w said:Hey JB! Here is the info on the G12-65's I got from Celesstion this morning:
These are G12-65's originally issued on 9th November 1978 as a
special design for Marshall. They were the main 4x12 speaker from then
until the mid 80's, when they were replaced by the upgraded version, the
G12T-75. They use a 1.75" diameter 15 ohm (now called 16 ohm) coil with
a 35oz magnet, have a response from 75 to 5000Hz, and are a good all
rounder with warmth and sweet fluid treble, good mid presence and
definition, but overall a slightly compressed sound. 15 ohm was just the
old name for what we now call 16 ohm, a nominal figure that covers a
range of different coil specs that fall into the same internationally
agreed band for resistance vs frequency variation.
The closest current speaker by build is the G12T-75, but
actually the sound is between the Classic Lead and the G12M, with some
of the warmth sweetness and vintage tonality of a Greenback coupled with
the bite and fluid treble of the 80's guitar heroes.
Best regards
The Doc
