Happy to say that my JP2C is coming back! Big thanks for Mesa Boogie for the excellent customer service!

From Mesa Boogie:

Dear MESA/Boogie JP-2C Owners,

Feedback from all sources in the musical world is important to us, but none more so than from our own customers. We’ve been watching the feedback regarding the JP-2C from several of the popular forums, and while we are deeply flattered by most of it, it’s come to our attention there is a potential for mismatched Effects Loop levels between the Channels for some players under certain settings conditions, particularly those that use the amp at lower volumes. Consequently we have a voluntary update that addresses this possible discrepancy and creates more balanced Loop levels throughout the Channels when the amp is used for its intended purpose (a Clean sound in Channel 1 and two high gain overdrive sounds in Channels 2 and 3) at these lower playing volumes.

The feedback suggests that for many, the Effects Loop is operating satisfactorily and within the performance parameters needed. Those players may not want to part with their amplifiers for a week or two to receive an update even with the shipping cost covered and the update free of charge. For those of you experiencing difficulties matching levels, we can send a UPS Call Tag, have the amplifier picked up and update it and return it to you within a week (shop time) free of charge. Regardless of which of these categories you might fall into, should you be unable to be without your amp or simply choose to wait until time permits that, rest assured we will be happy to do the same for you or subsequent owners at no charge any time during the 5-Year Transferrable Warranty.

The update addresses the concerns most commonly associated with the feedback we have noted on the forums. These concerns arose in applications where the playing volumes were low and/or a high setting of the MASTER in Channel 1 (as compared to Channels 2 and 3) produced excessive volume in the first repeats using a Delay. The update addresses these concerns and provides a well-matched Effects blend–again–when the amplifier is used for the intended use stated above and the Channels are relatively close volume-wise.

However, since performance of the Effects Loop is greatly affected by the settings of both the preamp (GAIN and Tone Controls) and power amp (MASTER and PRESENCE) in each of the Channels, it is still possible to experience SEND and/or RETURN level differences under certain conditions. Namely those which deviate from the Clean/Gain/Gain Channel dedication noted above and/or extreme GAIN and MASTER differences Channel to Channel. In an amplifier with this much GAIN and output power, as with any hot-rod, an application must be determined and a relative tuning for that application applied to achieve stability for the widest number of “drivers”.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate greatly your willingness to help us address this concern early on and assure the greatest level of satisfaction from your new amplifier.

Sincerely,

MESA/Boogie, Ltd.

That's awesome, and with a tube swap/more tweaking maybe you'd get it exact. Wow. Very cool..now I have to start a secret JP2C fund....lol

Awesome to hear. Still waiting for my LTD and matching cab to come in. Well worth the wait after reading positive reviews.

I think once you guys get swapping tubes and really get to know the amplifier, it will be as good or better than the originals, especially when you consider There are now three 'useable' uncompromised switchable channels two GEQ's and the midi options are incredible for live use…
I guess a lot of people own the originals that just play at home, but this new amplifier sounds like it'll be incredible for live gigging!
I've never owned a Boogie but this one has me really thinking, I would never, ever buy an original as it would be absolutely useless for me to play live... The flexibility of the JPC2 seems fantastic!!!
thanks for the review!

What keeps it from sounding like your original?

Probably because my IIC+ has different tubes(Chinese versus JJ in the JP2C) and my IIC+ is Simul-Class...

I guess I meant to ask what the tonal differences are.

Must resist GAS...
I have been happy with my V and a VHT 50cl lately but I really would like to try the JP2C.

thanx for the review but i need some clips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pick a couple chords on the clean channel, do some open chords on the crunch, and hit an e and some power chords on the lead channel. no weedly-weedly needed...

if it sounds like that clip of your original 2c+, I might have to make a move.

Just A/B'd them ad they are close. Both are just killer amps. I think I can get the JP as close as possible to my old amp with the additon of some Chinese 12AX7's. The stock JJ's pre-amp tubes in the JP are just not my thing at all...the amp sounds great with them but I just don't dig how they make an amp feel.

And Boogie has got to get this loop issue figured out....it's not just my amp, its all of them that have this issue. hopefully they will contact me tomorrow.

Keep us updated on what the loop issue could be. Mine is shipping out Tuesday so hopefully I don't need to send it back to boogie to get fixed up.

Great amp! Very close to my original IIC+!

Short Review:

So I received my JP2C yesterday (serial number #250). Didn't have any time to become familiar with the amp, so I ended up playing my holy grail original IIC+ at my gig last night. I will say that the original is a truly incredible amp that will never be surpassed IMHO. So I spent a few hours this morning with the JP2C. My initial impressions: The amp is built like a tank and is ultra flexible with a ton of tone shaping possibilities. The overall tone is very warm and thick. The clean sounds are very nice. Really smooth, big, and fat with a nice sparkle. The Crunch channel sounds the closest to my original IIC+. Has that really warm overdrive and saturation with the perfect Boogie mid-range. The Lead channel is similar to crunch but has a bit more gain while retaining the same overall tonal qualities. Both EQ's work like the original, but I find that EQ2 has a bit more of an overall aggressiveness versus Eq1. Could be just me, but thats what I hear. The push/pull on the gain and presence controls really provide an huge array of options with various gain structures, etc. The shred mode kicks up the overall gain with a nice upper mid range emphasis that puts the amp over the top gain wise. The switching between each channel is seem-less and quick. I do wish that the shred mode was foot switchable with the supplied pedal, although it is with midi. I have only one complaint with the amp. When I use a delay pedal (DD500 or El Capistan) in the loop of the JP2C and switch from the overdrive channels back to the to the clean channel there is a huge echo washing sound that happens with each of my delay pedals. I have sent Boogie an email about this issue so hopefully they can fix this. I don't think that it's pilot error on my part, but we shall see. Bottom line: Really great sounding amp with a tons of tonal options. Does it sound exactly like my original IIC+? Not yet. But I think if I were to change out the stock pre-amp and power tubes (sounds like JJ's) I believe that I could get damn close. I mean REALLY close! For $2500 this amp is a no-brainer.

series loop. kill dry off on your FX?
