I was surprised how small it was when I got to try one. Noticeably smaller than a V but looks funny in the back with that huge PT.

Sounds good. Only difference I can hear is the old one seems to have more mids or body.

maybe this is NOT my thing. because that just sounds like a metal zone pedal on a good day to me.

Keep in mind that mine is just an iPhone clip.

Here is Petrucci's professional clip for comparison.

It's got that nasal honk in the mids but damn are Mk series amps fun to play through

What keeps it from sounding like your original?

Probably because my IIC+ has different tubes(Chinese versus JJ in the JP2C) and my IIC+ is Simul-Class...

I agree that if you swap in the Chinese Pre's from your Original, the JPC2 will sound closer/the same as Original...
Thanks again for the video!

The entire new Dream Theater album was recorded with the JP-2C. You could also check out crappy live recording folks did at the shows so far...

"A Better Life" with some chugging and lead playing. Chugging when the song kicks in, lead starts around 2:16. I'm sure there's much better quality ones out there. That's just the first that popped up when I did a search:

Hate to break it to you dude, but the amp sounds horrible. Terrible Even. Might take a hit in the resale, but I'll give you $1500 for it.

Just kidding. It sounded pretty good for an iphone clip. I'd really love to try one of these out. Makes me want to get back into the Mark series amps. :D

I'm actually interested in this amp, even though I am one of those from the school of thought that the Mark III can cop similar enough tones to the legendary IIC+. I've owned a IIC+, III, IV, V, and Triaxis. My favorite was a Mark III Red. $750 used. Maybe I am just dumb and or tone deaf.

I experienced a similar feeling when I played it in person the other day, kind of raspy, not all that sweet. Didn't care for it.

Your signature clip with the original 2c+ is pure sex. heavenly really. the newer pretucci 2c, eh... not so much. any change of making a clip with chinese tubes in there? thanks

Yeah, I didn't care for that clip either.

1st of all, NEVER play heavy chords with delay on. Ever.

Anyway, it is an iPhone clip and they all suck so I'm sure the amp sounds great.

Thanks for posting up a clip though.

After listening to those clips some more, back to back, they really sound close. With tube swapping like Todd said, if its even closer, this amp is a no brainer for 2C+ guys. The reviews I've read on the Boogie Board, and this one, all from 2C+ owners seals it for me. This amp is a damn close if not identical version of a C+. Great job Mesa.

I think once you guys get swapping tubes and really get to know the amplifier, it will be as good or better than the originals, especially when you consider There are now three 'useable' uncompromised switchable channels two GEQ's and the midi options are incredible for live use…
I guess a lot of people own the originals that just play at home, but this new amplifier sounds like it'll be incredible for live gigging!
I've never owned a Boogie but this one has me really thinking, I would never, ever buy an original as it would be absolutely useless for me to play live... The flexibility of the JPC2 seems fantastic!!!
thanks for the review!
One thing I don't get is the assumption that you can't gig with an original live? I do it all the time, I get a great clean tone and I mean great, on par or better than the Rivera I had. And my lead channel sounds killer. For a lead boost an eq pedal in the loop works great. This new amp is a better choice live certainly, but I have no problems gigging with my original. Easier than my 800, where I have to live on my guitar vol lol..

Thanks Racer,
I have never owned an original, just always been told they were a real "compromise" when balancing tones for each channel,
So.... It's not as bad as they say...
Still, for flexibility and having a new amp with unquestionable past history, I'll take the new one,
