Awesome, thanks for a reply, anyone have opinions on using an EQ instead of a distortion pedal/tubescreamer for a boost?

Ive been using a Boss GE7 eq pedal last in my chain with flat EQ to up the level of my drive pedals into the amp.

works really well. Usual Boss minor tone suck, but you could compensate if you wished. Shouldnt be a problem for what you want it for though.

I do intend to replace it at some point with a decent clean boost pedal though - Xotic RC Booster or BB pre - amp, maybe a java boost or something similar.

Cool, PQ-3/4s work for clean too yeah?

Just to make sure I've got all right, guitar > EQ which adds gain (not as in distortion gain, as in clean gain) to the sound > amp with whatever distortion settings you've chosen which in my case will probally be maxed out yeah? :)

Basically the EQ will add gain, but only gain of the frequency you choose. This is why i love my PQ-3. I boost 3db at 100hz, 12-15db at around 800hz and then 3db at around 2000hz. This gets me a real cutting, liquidy yet tight lead tone when i have the gain up on the amp. I keep it on when i am playing heavy rhythms, and i switch it off for cleans.

It has no bypass or footswitchable on/off control, so i have mine set in one of the loops in my CAE 4x4 Switcher. This way i can switch it in or out of the signal by turning the loop on or off via MIDI. You can do the same thing with most loop switchers, or even those little Boss Line Selector pedals.

I have a Columbus, would I be able to put it in my Herbert's loop and program on/offs. I'm not sure what a CAE 4x4 switcher is sorry?

Many thanks again :)

Sorry for the late reply!

Basically the CAE 4x4 i have, has four loops that can be switched in and out of the signal path. So say i have four pedals in order going into the front end, and i put each pedal in its own loop, i can turn on any pedal or any combination of pedals by turning on the loops they are in!

There are a whole bunch of products that can do this, like the CAE stuff, the Axess GRX4 i think, and the Boss Line Selector pedal etc.

You will need to be able to put the PQ3/4 in a loop so it can be switched in and out of your signal path. Otherwise everytime you switch to clean channel, it will be like you have an OD pedal on.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I see!

How very genius, so it's like buying a 'rack mount (presuming it is) effects loop which IS programmable unlike an EQ by itself... How smart.

Do you use the other 3 loops for anything?

and where did you get your CAE? ebay.co.uk yeah?

Now I understand why people have such headaches wiring rack gear :|

Haha yep its a never ending headache :D I bought the CAE used from ebay.com from someone in america! great unit thats totally transparent, no colouration when u turn on the loops :)

i use the other 3 loops for other pedals n effects, my gmajor is in one loop and i sometimes run another boost pedal or fuzz in another loop!

Would I be better off keeping my G-Force in my Diezel's loop or does the CAE have any advantages? thanks again, spotted a PQ3 on ebay from America but need voltage converter and shipping = $$$ if I go for it but I want a PQ4 really not that I can afford to be picky, just had someone say to register on Dean's forums and put up an add so I'll try and see if anyone sells :)

ok, so yesterday a PQ3 was on ebay, I'd like a PQ4 for the extra versatility but don't think I'm going to be able to find one...

so on ebay yesterday it got no bids  and was starting at 300 dollars, how much should I offer him lower?

Only thing is shipping to England's still going to be a bit :(

$300 seems a little bit steep... i dont know, i think i got mine back 2-3 years ago for about $200 maybe a little less. i got hit with about 40quid import duty though which was shit!

Shall leave it then :)
