Boosting the blue channel on 5153

Pretty much any boost pedal would work for the blue channel. I've tried a few (TS 9, 808, Precision Drive, and other variants.) I feel an 808 works best with the 5153. The TS 9 worked as well as the precision drive but overall, the 808 did it for me. The TS 9 was missing something, and I felt the precision drive was too much. Get an 808 pedal!

I personally prefer the red channel over the blue for anything, really.

But if I had to chose, I'd take an approach over @Techdeth 's. The red is chunkier and more rhythm-y, and the blue has more cutting upper mids for solos. I'd just EQ both to taste and add a boost to help the blue channel not sound as JCM800-y mid gain.

JMO.

The blue would be great for punky stuff
It works great for that straight ahead rock. Do you have a Stealth version of the amp? Mine sounds heavier with those low focused mids but isn't a ton of gain. Just structured different.

I really feel this is right .to me 5153 is a 5150 with better crunch. I always though of red has 2 on the 5150

Ya mines stealth . I swear blue is meant to be the best crunch . Never uses it for metal at all

Yeah, I worded kind of wrong, LOL, but I 100% agree with you. Boosted blue for leads, unboosted red fur chunky rhythms.

I’m also in the camp that prefers the Stealth’s red channel over the blue for metal rhythms. The blue isn’t quite there on its own. Then I find the blue gets too mid focused once boosted. Maybe I need to find the right boost, but I don’t get hung up on it since the red channel gets me where I want with that amp straight in.

The Stealth Red channel is so great. I have a regular 6l6 and the gain is a bit too much, too early on the dial.

The stealth is so great and every channel is usable and a blast.

Koko boost or Ibanez tubescreamer both have worked well for me with the 100 watt.

What gain number are using for the red channel on your stealth? I go between 3 and 4. I feel like once you get the gain past 5 (noon) on the red channel it gets ridiculous.

I do 9 o'clock and is plenty

Xotic EP Booster into the Blue channel with the knob about the 11:00 position, just for the echoplex effect.

I have the Stealth 6L6 and the EL34, both 100 watts. I use an Electric Eye Mud Killer and a Maxon 808. My guitars are Gibson SG Standards, one with a Duncan SH-6 in the bridge and the other with a 57 Classic.

And now I’m interested in this idea of using the red for rhythm and the blue for lead.

Mod it to take el34’s. Problem solved. I hated the 6L6 100 watt I had.
