BOSS DD3, DD7, versus Hardwire DL-8

DD-3: Great, all-around classic Digital Delay. Has a great range (150ms-800ms). Simple; easy to use and can be found everywhere.

DD-7: A lot more versatility and options but the numerous times I tried to gel with it, I was left unimpressed. The 'Analog' option is a cool feature to have as is the reverse delay. You get a 40 second loop and delay times up to 6400ms.

DL-8: Lexicon chips here are a huge plus as it gives a more organic (albeit funny due to being digital) sound. The response is warm and the pedal works nicely upfront as it does in the loop. .15ms-8 second delay time to be had. 20 Second looper on this one though.
A trails switch on this one is a nice touch as is the Slapback setting for a quick, thickening effect.

I only ask this as I am potentially looking for something cheap and simple - I've got my Eventide TF, and I've got a Timeline as well. Both, ridiculously outstanding delay pedals. But for this smaller application, just need something cheap, simple and good.

I think you can choose whether or not you want the buffer in the circuit on the Hardwire. Not sure about the Boss delays.

Mo, the TC Flashback is not much more than these pedals and it sounds phenomenal, coming from a fellow Strymon owner.

Agreed. I've played around with the Flashback... However, I'm digging the Lexicon voicing of the HW personally.

But I may give 'er another whirl. Thanks for the heads' up.

I've had many delays and they've all gone in favor of simple Boss delays.
DD-5 for me.

DD7 and DL8 have TT. The DD7 (BOSS) requires an external FS to operate it though.

Friedman has recommended the DL-8 more than once, and I doubt he owns Digitech...so it must be good. It has also appeared in many of his clients rigs.

This is what I needed for the loop in one of my amps. Went with a digitech rv7 and dl8 and i'm happy. In this particular loop which is a passive serial loop they did impart a slight loss of highs and slight volume loss but i was able to overcome this with the eq and by turning the trails on on the rv-7 i.e. buffer on. if i was running them in front i'd go true bypass.

I have a Flashback and DL-8 on my board and I like the DL-8 much more. I'm using the FB for a slapback and the DL-8 for more lush delays. The tape echo setting is awesome....plus I like the rubber cover on the DL-8 to cover the knobs so they dont get bumped around

Flashback is more versatile and the DL-8 sounds better.

So Mo, when you gonna post some clips of your "Beloved" Hagen? I've posted dozens of clips in the past of all my guitar amps and gear.

I would suppose a “man” that shelled out a great amount of duckets for a piece of guitar gear would want the whole world to submerse themselves into your new found guitar glory.

Unless you've got your clips locked and sealed away for your ears only, where are they?

For some reason I'm leaning towards the TC Flashback but alot of good is being said about the Hardwire.

Is the Carbon Copy pretty crappy built it seems 50/50 on this aspect?

I got rid of the CC for the DL8 but the CC seemed well built and sounded fine in front. If your loop has send and return levels it should work fine in the loop. my basic serial loop was sending too much signal for the CC which is made to run at instrument level.

I think it comes down to Flashback and the DL-8, as the CC isn't in the same league as these other two. But it is a solid delay, and has been used by a lot of people.

In my original request, the reason I vowed out of the CC was a) former experience, b) functionality, and c) quality of the sound.

I am leaning towards the DL-8 personally.
