Anyways, I recorded the same isolated riff with a Left and Right track with different speakers. By the time you listen to them all you'll be sick of that riff. I know I am. I used the Lead channel with the gain at noon and channel volume at 3. Bass-noon, Mid- 11 O'clock, High- noon, presence- 10 O'clock. 100 watt mode with the Red OD as low as it will go on the panel. I used my eq pedal in the loop with only minor adjustments. Sheptone Tribute pickup.

JSX speaker

G12H-30 70th

90's Greenback ****EDIT**** this is actually the Katana 5" speaker with a little EQ.

Celestion Century Vintage Neo

Peavey Sheffield 1200(5150)

And finally the stock 5" speaker in the Katana Head

Enjoy.(or not   )

Dang, the Vintage Neo & 90's Greenback both sound super tight and the kind of tone I go for. It's insane how good this damn amp sounds for what it is.

They all sound great bro!

The Peavey, greenback, and JSX did it for me.

I lied in the original post. The "90'sGreenback" is actually the Katana 5" speaker that I added a little eq to in post.

Lol! Yes!!!!!

Reminds me of when someone posted all those clips of amps that people gushed over and it turned out to be all AxeFX Ultra clips. It was to prove a point to a bunch of people talking about how sterile the Axe was.

Can't remember who did it though. A dude named Alex I think.

Nice.. because I liked the last one the least at first and the greenbacks the most..lol

So you like the same speaker the most and the least? Haha! Depending on eq'ing of course.

Actually, I really like the way it came out. I can easily just record with the 5" speaker and be totally happy.

Hi, thanks for this test, it was the one that decide me to change my thr10 for the katana head !

I use it most of the time ( in fact all the time for now) with the internal speaker at home and with a group of friends to play blues and blues rock mainly. It's enought for that usage, but 3 or 4 times a year, i need to play live, and i want to buy a 2 x 12 cab for that.

I dont want to put high budget on it, a used one should be fine, but there is not a lot in my area (France), only some branded one (Marshall, mesa or orange) very expansive!

I've spotted three that can fit my budget:
- Harley Benton G212 vintage 120W, with 2 V30 celestion (Thomann design).
- Fame GN212-vintage 30 120W, with also 2 V30 celestion (musicstore.de design).
- Jet City Amplification JCA 24S+ 200W; with 2 custom eminence (based on legend v12?)

The 2 first are very similare i think, and exactly the same price (222 euros).
The third one is interesting, the box seems better build , the back can be open, and is a little cheaper (185 euro).

I've made made intensive search to try to see which will be the best choice, but there is not a lot of informations regarding this modele of JCA24s+ (200W mono, not older model 140W mono). By listen some comparative test on youtube, it seems that the eminence is maybe a little less bright than V30.
V30 is a reference, but i think the Katana is already a bright amp, so i'm more balanced on JCA24s+ side.

What do you think?

Thanks
Philippe

If the jet city cab seems a bit better construction wise I would go with that one. Yes, the Katana is pretty bright. The V30's might not be the best fit. An eq in the loop works wonders though. Or once you get into the editor you can add that eq.

Thanks for this answer !

One additional question:
- The katana user guide and printing in speaker output indication state that the speaker have to be 8 Ohms or Higher. Is there an impact on output power rating if plugged in 16 Ohms cab ?

I tried both a 16 ohm 4x12 and an 8 ohm 4x12 and didn't notice any significant volume differences that might have been related to ohms. They were different speakers so they sounded different, but not necessarily louder. The Celestion G12H/30's in the above comparison were 8 ohm speakers. I personally prefer all my cabs to be 16 ohm cabs. In the Katanas case since it need a minimum of 8 ohms, if I had a 16 ohm 2x12 cab( 1x12 or 4x12too) and wanted to add another cab it would be no problem. If the first cab were already 8 ohms the I would be shot out of luck. Sometimes in life one cab is simply not enough.

I like your strategy !

Thanks for all those informations.

Philippe

I would probably go with the darker speaker because the Katana is petty bright.

V30s are pretty bright speakers, and there were many reports of people not liking the Katana with V30s. I know it didn't sound good with my Gflex 212 cab, which has speakers that are similar to V30s. It sounds great with my 212 cab with Eminence V12s in it. I am actually thinking about buying 1 or 2 Swamp Thing speakers to replace the V12s to get even more low end out of it.
