Yep, this. Long ago I tried one(NS2)...returned it quickly. Grabbed a used Decimator pedal and haven't looked back. If it changes the tone, I don't hear it when I unplug it/then plug back it for a comparison. Maybe mine is modded? It’s been a while since I’ve used it but I think it knocked off some high end.
That’s exactly why I love it . Then you can can push your amp harder . After you set the gate and it sucks some of your signal you reset your gain and and eq until it’s back to where it was . Once you do that the amp is richer because you used more of it . And as a bonus the ns2 adds a tiny bit of chunk while doing this . It’s the best . And many good tones we love are doing this. Even angus young has a gate and does thisReally? I hardly ever use a gate anymore, I don't use so much gain that I'd really need one though. I always thought the NS-2 sucked some of the signal out of the cable when set up to where it cut the noise right.
Check out my answer to anomaly . Why I ever hates I fix and use that to make my tones betterYou're probably the first person i've ever heard say this....EVER. Most of the players i know HATE the NS2 For the Tone Suck it provides.
I know someone (Detroit1973) that has one of those for sale.....Actually i need to ask him if he still has it.
I Need to learn to connect my Sentry 4 cable method, so that i can run my TS9, Reverb & Chrous in the front & my DD6 in the loop while using the gate to kill the noise from the front & the loop.....I Honestly have no idea how.I'm looking at the REVV 8 and Zuul+. There is a few others. But both do the modern fast hard gate.
BOSS claims the NS-1X is faster than any other gate. Fluff in the video says the NS-1X is not fast enough.
Be interesting to know if it is actually as fast ....
I pretty much use the 4 cable method out in front of the amp for overdrive, boost and fuzz. I don't usually use it 4 cable method in the amp effects loop.
The NS-2 is fairly fast. Not as fast as some. The tone changes it does never was a issue for me. All of the pedals effect the tone somewhat.
Hi there, I have a Sentry noise gate as well and use it in 4 cable method. I found this video quite helpful:I Need to learn to connect my Sentry 4 cable method, so that i can run my TS9, Reverb & Chrous in the front & my DD6 in the loop while using the gate to kill the noise from the front & the loop.....I Honestly have no idea how.

What's nice is with this set up everything is silent until a note is played.
I have the same gate in my rig.. I put it in the loop of my Nitro. Never had an issue with getting the pedal to cut noise and leaving sustain as is. I use the Side Input/Output to go into the front of the amp, the input acts as a signal detection input.
Bro don’t throw pearls to swine as the good book says. That’s exactly why I love it . Then you can can push your amp harder . You like the tone suck hey, well that's new. lol. If I want some tone suck, i'll just throw a OD in front, takes out some high and lows and narrows the frequency spectrum just right for thrashy stuff... but then a gate is almost nessessary. Only time I used a gate was when I went through my Dimebag phase when I had all of his gear. It's certainly nessessary with that kinda tone. That’s exactly why I love it . The tone suck just happens when you just turn it on. Once you add more gain and eq your literally back to the same spot but tight and quiet . I don’t like the tone suck. I use to my advantage to make a better tone . Like I was saying angus even uses one . But every metal tone we all love is gated too . And Gus like Jon Petrucci use it . Aldo once your him is up more and the eq is up more your amp gets used in its full glory . It’s just full and rich while what was once perceived as a tone suck is gone because you adjust it bs j to your sane time after tweakingYou like the tone suck hey, well that's new. lol.
