Boss Waza SD-1w... worth it?

Anyone have experience with this pedal?

I have a standard run-off-the-mill SD-1 that I really like to boost my Marshall. I wish it had a little bit more output volume, though. My TS808 is a tiny bit louder with the level maxed if I listen to it in front of a clean channel. With hot pickups, I actually find the SD-1 doesn't quite reach unity gain even with the level cranked. Does the SD-1w address this? What is the "C" mode like? I don't really need more low-end or anything like that out of the SD-1, just a wee-bit more output volume.

:)

With a difference of $100 there is no way its worth it, no matter what simple mods they applied.

As for SD-1 circuits I always liked the mxr zakk wylde OD.

I have one of the Waza SD-1's, and while I really like the extra fatness in Custom mode, it's not worth the price they sell for new.
No Idea about the output level, as I don't have a standard one here to try.
If you can find a used one at a good price it's worth checking out because it is a good sounding pedal, but the new price is crazy for what it is.

Also, +1 for the MXR ZW OD.
I have a GT-OD with the switch on the PCB to get ZW mode, and that's a great OD. Has the SD-1 vibe, but the eq is way more flexible. Probably 90% of the sweep of the tone knob produces a usable tone.

Edit: good thread on the GT-OD with pics of the PCB here:

I actually have an MXR Classic Overdrive. I dig the GT-OD mode, but I didn't think to A/B the ZW mode with the SD-1. Will do! The MXR seems to have more bass overall, though, doesn it?

Bumpity. Anyone has anything else to say about the SD-1w?

I would recommend a fulltone fulldrive 2 mosfet. SD1 based, a lot of tweak able functions. You can find them used for $70ish if you look.

I have one. The extra gain and bass with the custom setting is cool, but most of the time I still find the standard setting sounds best. I’m usually boosting a high gain amp and find the standard setting does a better job at doing that. The times I dug the custom setting more has been into a stock jcm800 and when I set up jmp w/a Cali mod to a stock setting. If you have some old stock Marshalls and find the regular sd-1 a little thin, it may be worth it. Otherwise it probably isn’t unless you can find it used.

When these first came out, I was on the fence since I really liked the OD1X...I figured it would be a great pedal to add. A few guys that tried them compared it to a vintage 80s version, and they preferred the vintage. So I added an 86 SD1 instead for 70 bucks. For what its worth it has a sweeter top end, more detail than a stock or any modded version I've tried(Analogman, Keeley etc.).

No, you are paying for the name. There is maybe 40cents difference in parts

Thanks for the replies, dudes. It seems like it's not worth it, then, lol.
