Would've loved to hear how killer Metallica might have been with Dime playing lead.

Or anyone else besides Hammett for that matter.

I think the funny thing is Dime COULD play the fast downpicking parts, as he exibited it by learning Metallica tunes by ear and playing them just as well, hence why he was offered the job.

That was the Megadeth gig he was offered and declined. Or is there more to the story ?

Daneyo

Sorry I do agree Dime is a better lead player, I didn't see that part for some reason???

And Gary

There are a whole fuckload of stories! Tons! weather they were true or not who knows.
As far as I've been told he was offered a spot in Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer.

Once again info I heard from VERY reliable sources, but could be drunken induced bullshit.
:dunno:

And furthermore

What I was getting at, Sheer numbers yes Metallica was more mainstream and had more fans but To ME personally they were not more influential.....so when it comes to personal opinion you can't compare the two.

If you ask Metallica fans you have your answer and vice versa. based on sheer numbers alone metallica would get the nod.

I'm rambling. All I'm saying to ME Dime was more influential and to many of my friends as well.

Het was better at writing more "catchy" hooks than Dime, but substainence belonged to Dime. I think thats where we're all getting hung up on who had more influence. If you were stuck on a desserted island with a solar-powered Ipod with only enough room for one album, and you had the choice between either "Ride the Lightning" or "Cowboys from Hell" which one would you choose?

RTL for me too. A Pantera album wouldn't even be in my top 50... Don't get me wrong, I have a ton of Pantera love but I can only take a little at a time.

I'm sorry but ride the lightning? thats Metallicas WEAKEST album  *not including anything after the black album* I might be putting on my flame thrower suit, but fuck it!

Cowboys all the way if that is my only choice!

More hooks??? really.....Pantera IS Groovy and has a ton of hooks!

Bah, I don't even know you guys anymore!

in the quotation marks I said "catchy" inferring that they appeal to the masses. My instructor has me working on Dime phrases, he's a stickler about them, so to do better at them, I watch him on youtube, and its embarrassing how easy Dime executes them,,,thats why I make the connection to Charlie Parker...genius

maybe its cause you're only as good as your last album?

I love both guitar players.

But more influenced by James since I grew up in the 80's and thats when I was started playing was around 1983. Metallica was just a Metal Machine back then. No one could touch them. ;)
