You are correct, but there were no wall studs there.

I didn't realize when I made those.. wood is heavy.

I made those off Internet plans..

I used 1/2" plywood for the base, and then 1"x1" blocks, cut at different heights based on these plans.

Once I finished building the first one, I tried to pick it up and went, "Oh shit !"

Yup, I plan to eventually make a large board for the back of my room.

I know I'll be forced to move soon 'though and am likely to have a much-smaller space to work with, so it'll have to wait. At any rate, hopefully there're some studs & batons I can work with.

Don't use wood.

I thought it looked cool, but even these small ones get heavy real fast.

Use foam or some other lightweight material.

You can use lightweight wood or plastic. I s'pose if the foam were reflective that could work too.
