This is an intermittent problem so I was going to post a clip with featuring the reverb sounding good, then bad. But the file size was too large so this is just the reverb sounding bad. When it's good it sounds great. When it's bad, it sounds like this.

I've turned the reverb on and off in this clip so you can hear that the guitar is indeed clean. The frazzled sound is what I've referred to as sounding like there is a snare drum in the room and the snares are rattling with the vibrations from the amp. Clearly, that isn't what is happening, but it's what it sounds like to me.

There are no other effects used in recording this clip and I used my direct out from the amp.

Do you think anything can be done about this? It does not sound like just a matter of taste to me, and the reverb goes back and forth between sounding very nice and bad.

Excellent analogy! That's exactly the way it sounds on my Renegade. I can reproduce it at will. All I have to do is push the channel volumes past noon.

i kinda dig it

sounds retro. or like a horn section starts to play behind you

It's the Ventures' "Walk Don't Run", with a few errant notes ;)

Good job, hbucker  Well done! The sound is really clear and it's exactly like you described it earlier.I was sceptic about it but you were right on the money ;) And i kind of like it too,audioholic...as a special effect maybe :) Good luck!

It took me a minute to realize that the distorted sound was the reverb and not the guitar. That sounds like something in the reverb circuit is overloading. I kind of like it too, but if it is a problem it should be fixed.

thats exactly what my reverb does on occasion, I'll play with the levels to figure if I can have it happen again.

Certainly were some errant notes. I wasn't paying attention to that until I was ready to submit it. I was exclusively focused on getting the reverb sound I've been trying to communicate.

The extra notes come at no extra charge. :D ;)

To ask a stupid question- You have tried just replacing the reverb tube, right?

The tube layout doesnt say what tube has anything to do with the reverb.
Mine does it to and I have 2 tungsram 2 mullard and a tele 12at7 in mine and the reverb sometimes doesnt even work,,But thats ok I have a reverb pedal and think it suks anyway.

I've swapped out tubes in all positions with tubes that I know are good with no change. It doesn't seem to be tube related.

The reverb is digital. None of the tubes are related to the reverb.

I am in the same boat as hbucker. My fan issue has been resolved, thanks Nate, you da man!!! My reverb sounds the same way. I just never go past, like 730 or 8. It really isn't an issue at low bedroom levels, but, for band practice and gigs it is hardly on. It would be nice to crank the reverb every now and then to get a cool Yngwie sound! When I first bought the amp, I took it back for this reason. I only was able to hear the fizzle when I turned the reverb up past 1. They looked at me like I was crazy and asked me if I really use that much reverb! I replied, "No, but for 1300 dollars I should be able to use as much reverb as I want without the fizzle noise!" So, they gave me a tube and sent me on my way. Digital reverb, They got me!!! You may have won this time GC, but I will have my revenge!

For me at least, it's not a matter of how much or how little reverb is dialed in. It's all about the channel volumes. If the individual volumes are past noon, the rattle happens even if there is very little reverb dialed in.

Exactly.

As I pointed out earlier:
AL3201BG (Digital Reverb Engine with 16 effects)
AL1101G Analog to Digital converter
AL1201G Digital to Analog converter

Bruce, is this all you are going to contribute to the issue?

I think if you look at some of the threads around this one from the past few days, you'll see that Bruce has been interactive with us on this issue. No answers yet. But I get the impression that he's working on it.

I have been looking around the forum and this thread seems to be the problem I'm having, but I'm going to upset a lot of people by saying that the rebel 30 is a piece of crap and I have just got one. the problem is not with the reverb, its a problem with the signal leaking through to the power amp from somewhere in the amp. to check this out try putting a volume pedal in the loop and shutting it off and start playing, you'll hear the reverb then if you switch the reverb off you'll hear a horrific distorting, peaking and overloading sound, the same sound that hbucker has recorded. my problem is that the overloading sound is always in the signal chain and that's not good.

I think this thread is referencing the Renegade model, not the Rebel 30. I own a Rebel 30 and it is not a piece of crap. I have used Delay, Chorus, Phaser, Tremelo, Reverb pedals in the loop and I haven't had any problems. Does the amp sound normal without using the effects loop? I would try each pedal individually and see what the results are. In the manual there is a Note that some effects may tend to overload and you may notice distortion. Why not put the volume pedal between your guitar and amp and not in the effects loop?

Hi Jeepguy, I've put the volume pedal in the loop to get rig of the pre amp signal so I could check the loop, I don't play the amp this way normally, all I'm saying is that there is signal leeking through the loop and it's this that people are hearing in both the Renegade and the Rebel 30. Please if you have one, check it out, hopefully it's just a bad batch??????

I have a Renegade 65w. Love the sound but there is an electrical "hum" in the background that will carry on for a minute or two, get louder, pop/crackle, and then fade away and it will be fine for 10 min or so and start to do it again. It does it without an instrument plugged in. I've tried tube swaps or pulling a set of power tubes and running off only one side with the tube mix to the side with tubes in it. Neither helped. Also had a spare set of preamp tubes and did some preamp tube swapping. My first Renegade had a similar issue that I ended up returning it for within the return policy but now I'm out of the return policy. During band practice it doesnt bug me too much because it doesnt get louder with volume increase but playing it at home its driving me NUTS. To the point where i mostly play out of my little VOX combo. Then adding to the problem I have to listen to my wife gripe that i spent a grand on an amp that i dont play at home.

Anyone have any advice / ideas?
