I've mainly seen it on 210 and 212 cabs where it seems to be at least semi-common. I've seen a couple of examples of 410 with asymmetrical speaker placement (appears to be common in bass cabs, but not guitar cabs). Never seen it done on a 412 though.

Any disadvantages or benefits from asymmetrical speaker placement verses side-by-side?
Any reason for it being less common on 410's and nonexistent on 412's?

Omega 412s have asymmetrical speaker layout. Front-loaded. Never played one, so can't say how they sound.

My old Emperor 4x12's had the asymmetrical speaker layout. Fuck they sounded (and looked) good.

I made my own asymmetrical baffle to convert a marshall 1965 into a 2x12.

TBH it sounds bitchin, no weird phase stuff that I can hear
