A lot of talk about the Cameron Aldrich Mod on the board lately......so here is a quick clip of mine.

Todd - are you running Scumbacks in the cab in the clip?

Steve

Hey Steve - Yes, that clip was recorded with the Sykes LP, Zoom Q3, and my Bogner straight cab with 65 Watt Scumback H75's and M75's in an X pattern.

Todd

Our amps must be set up different. I tried both Aldrich's with Scums in a straight Bogner and lost all my bottom end. Even with the bass boost to the stops and the rest of the EQ compensating, I couldn't get it where I needed to be. Skidded that cab and rolled my Ubercab back under the head :D and damn near went postal trying to get reconfigured....

May do another clip in a bit.

Steve

Steve - Here are my settings. Sounds like we may have two different versions of Mark's Aldrich mod.....

To me the ocean mod is more organic and cleans up better, very big and punchy. Was one of my favorite mods, took a boost really well and was just very dynamic.... The aldrich is more upfront and grindy, doesnt clean up as nice more agressive!

+1 this! I can say from owning a few of the amps with these mods and even a few with the ocean/aldrich together, that I would say Mark stuck the ocean mod in with the aldrich mods for what would make total sense to get the 50 watt amp to sound huge, 100 watt type of head room and sound. Not 100 percent the same as the 100 watt amp but as close as you can get with out the amp being 100 watts.
Those amps with the combination of those two mods were cool as hell at least for the amps that they were. Especially when you looked at what they started out life as stock.

I don't think any of Mark's mods sound the same! Both of my Aldrich amps sound different. And yeah, you have the push pull pots across the EQ and the clean/plexi stuff going on too. My Aldrich from the early 90's probably best resembles yours. It has the bass boost and a 3 way selector for the frequency select. The other one has a pot instead of a selector. All the EQ is straight forward with push/pulls on the gain and and hi/low gain setting. What makes this amp really cool is the input gain control, and the bass boost/frequency controls. The early mod is more open and the later mod, from 2004, is more modern sounding.

@ Superunknown :

Can you give me further details about the tonal effects of the different pull switches?
What does the COMP knob on the back do?

What does the COMP knob on the back do?

The Pull Knobs(Front):

Pull on Bass (Boost) = this gives a low-end boost while allowing the amp to remain tight. This pulled along with the low-mid switch activated on the back will get you into Uberschall territory.

Pull on Mid (Mid Shift) = this gives the amp a mid boost that sounds a lot like John Norum's tone. Cuts really well.

Pull on Treble (Plexi/Stock) = To be honest, I am not sure what this does, but I like the tone of the amp with the knob pulled(Plexi mode). To me, this pull knob is the secret to this amp. The Plexi mode just kills.....

Compression/Voicing/Gain(Back):

Compression knob just adds compresssion to the gain channel. Using this knob with the two gain knobs along with the gain voicing three-way will allow you to get just about every variation in gain that you could ever want....

The three-way voicing will aloow you to emphasize the lows, low-mid, mid-high....just another tone shaper.

The three-way gain structure goes from a great stock JMP (up)to almost too much gain(down). I use the middle position which i feel gives me all the gain that I need.

Thanks!

''compression'' adds gain and so compression?

the 3 way gain structure switch isn't labelled? I can see two switches that are not labelled

really no way to describe pull plexi? more or less mids, or more or less high, tighter.....

The CCM is its own model and will be released next year to compliment the CCV now in production. We also have plans to release Marks Aldrich, Jose and Ocean circuits in single channel "Marshall Plexi" vibe head with the Cameron mod in them from the factory with no waiting and no sending your head in and hoping.

(No firm timeframe on these yet).

Man, that is hot news, and a smart play. I know it's just a nugget in your head, but is there any possibility of working with a more budget manufacturer on these supposed "mod" amps? Something similar to the ceriatone HRP series perhaps? Not sure if it's even practical profit-wise under the new management, but a single channel plexi mod with a Jose, Aldrich, or Ocean for around $1400-$1800 (option dependent) would be sex, give a more approachable price structure to the cameron line (with the ccv/ccm obviously being flagships), and tempt the lesser mortals who have what you might call lame jobs. :D

  Can you tell I want a HG Jose regardless?

One of the unlabled switches changes the channels and the other is the three way gain switch.

What are ya running for power tubes and pre amp tubes?

EH 12AX7 Pre-amp Tubes and SED EL34 Power Tubes.

Sounds good. But max out that mid knob and I'd probably like it more. ;)

Hells yes. You thinking of making an actual Cameron site where we can get details on all the amp models? I've heard clips of Ocean, Jose and Aldrich mods. But honestly, a lot of people have no clue what the differences are. A company website with model details, specs, prices, ordering info, history, etc. would probably be beneficial at some point if this venture is going to continue to grow.

Look for a Ground up New Cameron Amplifiers "Aldrich Mod" Single Channel Head in 2012. ;)

You're killing me over here Brad. I was grinning ear to ear when I read the above first post. I was just about to post a reply begging you to make it in a Plexi style headshell when I read the next post.....

You could be on to something BIG here (which, I suppose, is precisely the reason you decided to get involved in this endeavour in the first place!).

First you take my money for a CCV, now this?

I better start rolling my nickels!
