Can you really play a Diezel home?

I guess it's not a big surprise for anyone that amps sound better with power amp boosted. But can someone honestly let me know what other amp sounds better than say Herbert at low volumes? Please let know, I'll probably buy one.

The question is that there is no question. If you want Diezel tone you buy Diezel, no matter where you play.

Let's make this a "sticky" thread!

I like my Tiny Terror a little bit more for home use, because on the 7 watt mode you can crank it and still have more than reasonable volumes. My Einstein still sounds great a low volumes, but I like to save it for band practice/playing out. Just my two cents. Might just have to go fire them both up, two amps ftw!

I've tried Tiny Terror, completely useless for what I do.

I wasn't impressed with it at all for any style.

I mean, what you consider "quiet enough" is certainly relative, but I keep mine pretty damn low and I still get all amped up when I hear the lovely tone.(pardon the pun). There is a point where you turn it down too low and it loses all sense of power and punched, but that is with the volume barely cracked open.

In summation I'd just like to state:

DIEZEL FUCKING RULES!!!!!

I have an Einstein 50w and play it through a Diezel 4x12 NYC cab. No problem with the noise levels. I do own my own home but if I had an apartment and had the room I would still have it. If you want a Diezel buy a Diezel and never look back.

Diezel owners are not afraid!!!!!!

i play my herbert at home vol and its really one of the best amps for playing at loud home vol and at tv vol its really nice when its late and you dont wanna wake everybody up.

I tested all Diezels at bedroom levels before I decided to get the Herbert. I play mainly at home with channel vol on channel 1 at around 11am, and on channels 2 and 3 at around 8:45am, with the master vol at 9 am. No complaints so far, but the room I play in has rugs, etc.
Obviously it sounds better at higher vols, but it's still the sound I was looking for at low vols, so I say yeah, go for it.

BTW Scott, if you mainly play at home you should seriously consider trying a 2x12. Bogner OS 2x12 sounds a lot better with that sort of setting than 4x12s do(it actually sounds better than many 4x12s in general), you will just need to raise it from the ground with something sturdy, maybe one of those heavy old cabinet unit.

i think scott like s the optic ;)

but i can totally understand that :D

I do, yeah. :D

I'll try a 2x12 Diezel pretty soon, but I really dig the 4x12's...I'm talking to Peter about a new one right now to get rid of the Engl, although I really like the Engl with the Herbie. :)

I´m thinking as the majority in this topic. I have Herbert and it´s the best sounding amp on low volumes(and on high volumes ;)) I have ever tried(and I have tried many). VH 4 works pretty good on low volumes too as does Einstein. You can get good punch even at very low volumes on Herbert and when you open it a bit it´s monstrous. The best amp for me! Of course it´s best played loud but it´s also very enjoyable on home usage.

after a lots of playing in the past weeks: herbert sounds absolutely GREAT at low volumes. of course not like cranked up, but also great.

Never played an Elmwood Modena 60/90 have you? Try one and get ready to edit what you wrote.  I just told you so go buy it. In all honesty there are two amps that kill the Diezels master volumes and play better at lower levels which is saying a hell of alot given how exellent Diezels play at low levels. Modenas and Voodoos have incredible Master Volumes even better than my Einstein 100. The Modena for example has just about the same feel at whisper volumes, you can actually hear my picking late at night as well as the Modena 60 and it sounds great. The Voodoo V-Rock I tried a few weeks ago was beyond belief at low volumes. Camerons are great as well IF you could find one.

It's a crime not trying an Elmwood but the worse part is that you have to buy one immediately after trying one. Just like a Diezel Einstein. :D

One thing that's very interesting is how many "THINK" these type of amps play so much better at higher volumes. They don't and it's not what these amps are designed after. They're not single channel amps and they are NOT non-master volume amps which means they're made to break up at the pre stage so they will sound great at lower levels as well. The only thing you're not getting is the speaker break up but who cares really when it comes to high gain amps? You only want power tube break up from non-master volume amps otherwise you get a bunch of compression that has no damn definition at all. I don't understand the on going BS about "better at higher levels" with Master Volume high gain amps.

Yes I agree with most of the volume issues. It's not just speaker break up that comes into the equasion but power amp distortion also. There seems to be a sweet spot on most amps where the power stage sounds best (mostly around 50-60%) The Herbert doesn't need power amp or speaker breakup to sound sweet, it sounds and records extreemly well at loungeroom levels.

That's what actually happened when I've tried the Herbert & that was the day when I was going to buy a VH4

I will try Elmwood when I get a chance to drive near the retailer that has them in stock around here, however from what I've heard in some clips it's not really my cup of tea, but I'll never know until I play one myself.

As for the power amp level there is difference between bedroom level, low level, good level (where the amp sounds the best) & too much level. For example Uberschall sounds pity at bedroom levels.
