Good news.......amp is here!! Bad news, USPS smashed the shit out of it........tubes are mostly all broken. Two sets of power tubes gone. 4 pre's ripped out of the sockets with 45 degree bends in the pins. Nice. I think I'm done with shipping amps.........buying or selling. Too frustrating.

I did throw my old set of GEs in there and at least the amp works fine!! Thanks goodness. Didn't bias it or anything, just played it for a few minutes and they didn't get real hot either.
This sucks ass man, sorry to hear this,at least the amp is in one piece...................is it????

Yep, seems the amp itself is fine. Worked ok with my GE's in there, just didnt' want to push it to long without biasing it. Just sucks man. Probably a few hundred $ in just tubes gone. 4 6550 power tubes and 4 pre amp tubes. All shot man. Sucks ass, but again the amp seems to be fine. I want to pull the chassis and take a look just to be sure too that there's nothing floating around in there.

Was it insured?

Tips of the 12ax7's broken off, see pins bent. Notice no posts on the SEDs. I tried these tubes and they are shot. Nice broken top off the Tung Sol too. Nice.

LP, I sent a pm to Steve to let him know but I don't know if it was insured or not.

Amp is in good shape thank god. I haven't pulled the chassis yet, but the amp is in good shape and it works fine. I probably should check for any cracks in the headshell.

Was this SteveK's? If so, he's a good dude and will help you out.

Oh I know. Steve is a great guy. Tubes are replaceable thank goodness.

I'm not going to worry about it too much especially since he gave me a great deal on the amp!!!

What is with the shipping these days?..my buddy had damaged diezel cabs from the west coast...Ive got kt88 20th shiva and love it 100%!..definitely a keeper amp.

new power tubes should be here today or tomorrow so I'll finally get to try out the amp. Been frustrating for sure.

OK, great news! Got the 6550's biased up, plugged in the strat for just a few minutes.......the clean and mid gain crunch sounded fabulous! Looks like the amp survived the USPS bashers. Can't wait to wind her up with the LP next. Whew, what a relief.

Man Rich, you are right. This amp is really good man. I got to crank her just a little bit with the LP and man it has great tone. Get that nice lower gain crunch up to really hard rock. Also ran my Barber 1/2 Gainer and it just kicks it in the ass and kills it too. Can't wait to get some more time dialing it in and tweaking.

I really can cover anything in a modern cover band. We have played everything from Cream to VH to Rush to Led Zep to Fuel to Metallica to Nirvan to STP to Alice in Chains to Tool to Godsmack and Creed and you can dial it in on the 20th Shiva.

Well just got a pair of the Sovtek KT88's and I think I prefer them to the 6550's!!

I also had to dial the bias pot all the way to the coldest and they are still a bit hot, but heck I'm going to play them. Maybe that has something to do with it as well.

So I guess I'm in the minority here, but the KT88's sound great!! Still curious about the 34's, but don't want to snip the resistor yet.

I played a Shiva 20th Anniversary today that had KT-88's in it. I was floored by this...possibly the best sounding high gain amp I'd ever heard, even compared to my Ecstacy 20th Anniv.

It looks like the amp was designed with KT-88's but most people here are using EL-34's. Any specific reason to not going with the KT-88's?

Also, is it an easy change to switch from EL-34's to KT-88's? Thanks.

I'm still trying to figure out how the HELL a 12AX7 can get that bent/maligned within the head of an amp during shipping  There's no mass to them - you'd have to go IN to the chassis to bend the f*ckers like that.

Scary. I'm sorry the tubes were shot, mega condolences. I'm still working on gettig a Shiva. It's the right thing to do. I'm a Bogner guy, through and through. And YES, I'm also a mega Diezel Fanboi, so what, I've nailed it down to 2 companies....that's not too much of a slut is it??

i will never sell my white anny and 212 that matches,,,I will never play it either it just sits there covered...
