Hey, hey!!! :)
How are you, guys??

Just recorded this comparison between Celestion speakers... Creamback 75 vs V30.

Used a Gibson Les Paul, Friedman Smallbox and a isobox (Randall clone).
Miked with SM57 and AKG P170.

Hope it's useful for someone! :)

I have a pair of each of those in my 4x12. They go well together.

Your mic'ing technique is great. Sounds very natural and like I'm in the room, instead of like my ear is pressed up against the grill cloth. Very nice!

I think the Creamback sounds more pleasant in the highs. Has a nice piano-like ring and decay to it. But the low-end is rounder and softer than that of the V30. So I think for chugga-chugga and rock and stuff, the V30 might be a better choice. But for other styles and some of the moodier stuff you were playing, the Creamback might be a better choice. For example, check out the song "A Stranger," by A Perfect Circle. I can see the Creambacks being awesome for something like that.

I prefer the Creamback to the Vintage 30. Those sound great. Ever tried out the g12h30 70th anniv's?

Cool vid. I think it would be great to get amps that naturally go well with certain speakers, and record those combinations. It would take a lot of work, and be a pain to try and locate certain amps...but it would go a long way in showing what speakers work with certain amps vs not working with others. Many hate on V30s, but run a Mark series through one. Greenies or a variant of? A Marshall style amp. People that hate V30s, would really like the tone through a Mesa Mark I'm sure.

I got the Creambacks because they sounded great, but also because I was worried about the 20w rating of the two stock EVH speakers in my EVH 4x12 and the 60w rating of the two V30s I also had in there. The cab's wattage is 4x the lowest speaker's wattage rating. So the V30s weren't getting fully used. I figured mixing some 65w Creambacks with them would give plenty more headroom in the speakers with no risk of a 100w head overloading them. I gigged with this cab last weekend, but they, of course, only mic'ed one speaker, which turned out to be a V30.

V30's sound better in the mix to me.

75's better solo.

Thanks for doing comparison videos like this! I usually don't have the opportunity to A/B speakers I'm interested in before buying so stuff like this is very helpful.

I was thinking about getting a Creamback for mid gain tones in a 1 x 12 cab. Is there much tonal difference between the M75 and M65?

I see the 65's showing up in Friedman and Bogner cabs, as well as others.

Wow that middle clean strumming section was gorgeous with the Creamback 75. Sounded like crap with the v30.

I have the Creamback 65 and I love it. From the clips I've heard, the 75 to the 65 is just like how the G12-H30 is to the G12-25, has more scooped mids, and more suited to rhythm playing in a single guitar band. The 65 has more mids and sings more for solos.

Yes. I just pulled out a pair of Creamback 75s out of my 2x12 for a pair of Creamback 65s. I love both, but I just got a Bogner Shiva and the 65s are more suited to it than the 75s. The 65 emphasizes high mids, doesn't have quite as much bass, and has a smoother top end. The 75 has more sizzle in the highs and more bass.

That's my impression as well. Exactly.

I remember hearing some isolated AC/DC tracks a few years ago, and thought 'well this sounds like garbage', but in the mix it was perfect. Amazing what competing frequencies (of a full band mix) can do!

Thank you all, guys! :)
I really think these speakers mixed together are great!

In the mix I didn't note that big difference. And that is something that I always believed: In a band, with all other instruments, it is hard to know the difference of speaker A from B, same for some overdrive pedals, guitar pickups, amps.... Side by side it is easy.

Actually, I think in a recording or live show, the miking position can make much more difference than the speaker type.

Thanks, man. Really good to know you like the recording. And the isobox makes it harder than a regular cabinet and I can't do the same mic'ing or the isobox will sound kind of "boxy". Actually, I also like the Creambacks for rock stuff. :D

Never tried the 65, man... :(

Yeah, for sure I also think that some amps fits better some specific speakers. I had a Mesa Mark V25 and it really sounded awesome with my V30.

No, but would love to. Maybe someday... Hope so!

A vote for the V30.

Thanks for taking the time to compare and post.

What a great video, really well done. I would love to see more done just like this. I'm surprised how much I liked the creamback.

Been using a pair of Lynchbacks for the last 6 months. I've never played either version of the Creambacks, but from the way everyone is describing both speakers here, it sounds like the Lynchback sits, tonally, right between the 65 and 75.

Always seems V30's are better than anything for metal while Greenback style speakers are better for lighter gain or mid gain crunch.

I just bought and am anxiously waiting for a pair of Lynchbacks coming in tomorrow. I'm swapping my V30s with the Lynchbacks in my Orange 212.
