Celestion Peacekeeper... new speaker

There are so many Reactive loads and attenuators and modelers out there to get a cracked amp sound at lower volumes. Why not put it directly in the speaker. I think it’s smart of Celestion actually to try to keep the guitar cab and speaker market up.

For all of us who still love cabs and speakers and don’t want everything to eventually be FRFR, I think it’s a good idea. I’d give them an A for competing and curious to how it sounds.
I actually had/have a 2x12 cabinet with built in attenuation. I ended up realizing that it changed the amp sound, even when the cabinet was set to full volume/no attenuation. I removed it from the circuit after that.

It is a neat idea though and definitely was a cool feature. I left the unit in, so theoretically I could connect it all back if I wanted to.

Yeah I’m curious how this new speaker handles that. I’ve tried attenuators in the past when they were resistive loads (old hot plates) and never liked it. Have never tried any of the newer Reactive Load type attenuators on cabs though. I’m hoping that since this is a real speaker they solved for that.

The solution to this problem is TESTOSTERONE!

Barring that, amps like the Orange Terror's with Bedroom/Headroom and variable power tube voltage are where it's at.

Attenuators have their place but it's best to just not put the high B+ on if you want low volume vibe.

I swear once folks try a Rivera or Orange with the half power switch that cuts the B+ down to 200v or so, there will be no going back. Especially if you run the bias up which gives the core of the early VH vibe.

What's the point? Vibe so you want to PLAY ALL THE TIME.

Yep! I have the low power mode on my Rivera. Still full and nice but able to be cranked. To be honest though, the amp sounds so huge on High Power mode, that I leave it there a lot still and just run everything at a super low Master volume, which this amp also does very well.

If I were interested in keeping the peace I sure af wouldn’t be playing 100 watt tube amps.

What the fuck is this horseshit?! Quieter speakers?! For when you want to sound like a rebel without actually getting in trouble. Fuck this with a stick! Crank your amp like you are supposed to and go deaf like the rest of us! It's about the feeling, not the sound. Move the air!

It's cool they're releasing lower sensitivity speakers and all, but the success of this thing is going to depend on what the speaker itself sounds like.

If it sounds like an old school V30 then hell yeah, but if it sounds like something weird and muffled / dead / notchy, then it's DOA.

Run the bias all the way up with lo power and prepare to be amazed!

Make a version with 102dB efficiency and call it the peacemaker.
Pffft! Why stop at 102? My EV SRO's, and many of my Fanes are rated at 103 db.

I wish EV would reissue the alnico SRO 12. Freaking amazing speakers. It's like a leaner and meaner EVM12L with midrange grind that would make most diehard Celestion lovers feel tight in the pants.

Isn’t the SRO 12 the one with the ungodly large motor and magnet?
