I want to hear a clip of the Yeti to decide.. I hope the Yeti turn out to be a good high gain amp but a good Marshall vintage Voicing without sounding ,Fuzzy,Fizzy or Harsh ... Axe-Man What about the dynamics of the Yeti you find it a bit hard to control when there is a lot of gain?

Nik was great and did the custom tolex for free. They don't now do custom stuff but you can always ask him to see if he has the color you are looking for. He's a great bloke to deal with and I imagine he really tries hard to look after all of his customers.

I find the Yeti most difficult when you crank the master and essentially use gain 1 was a kind of volume control. It stays really clean (to about 3 on gain 1 - but it's really loud by this time) and is hugely dynamic...kinda too dynamic if you want to keep it quiet. Better to use both the master and gain 1 to produce a quieter, less dynamic clean...saying this, this lower dynamic clean is still just as dynamic as any normal amp I've played. You need volume when winding the master up and it works great here. Really touch sensitive.

The high gain side is easier to control and works great at drummer volume levels. I found it easy to play and just loved it.

It can sound fizzy down low as it has loads of gain on tap. It's really seems to have plenty! I got it for Maiden, Van Halen, ACDC etc and it handles all that easily. I also am mucking around with detuned stuff and this is the cut off. It has enough gain but not the sound for modern stuff...it's not really a death metal amp.

It can get fairly heavy sounding but not modern. We had an Orange Rockerverb 200watter against it and that does the scooped modern Recto type sound really well with huge bottom end but the Yeti cut so easily and whilst it doesn't have the bottom end of the Orange, it still sounded awesome. Got the Orange owner to play some drop C stuff with his LP and dialed in some tones...he thought it was a pretty awesome amp. Different animals but the Yeti cuts perfectly without having to be louder like some amps need to be.

Another guy at the jam is going to get one as he used to own a Metropoulos 12000 series and this is so similar and half the price.

I think it's going to make a solid pedal platform as well. I'm on the Toneczar Openhaus pedal waiting list and with that or an Okko Dominator it will do the modern stuff.

The loop seems really transparent as well and took the Recto sim of my HD500 really well though levels seemed a bit low (will look into that) Might even experiment with the 4cm so I can dial in the Yeti and use the loop to switch to a Fender clean etc. Kinda makes it multichannel and really versitile. I'll see how this works out and when I get around to a shoddy demo, I'll try to include this as well.

Sorry for the long post!

I really wonder what the main differences are between the Yeti and the Standard? I ask because while I love my Chupa, it's actually a bit hotter than is really necessary for me. I'm perfectly happy with lower gain and a little boost. I wish mine was a bit less "modern". I also need to think about maybe a preamp tube change to tame it just a bit.

Just thinking out loud.

I'd really love to hear this amp A/B'd with a Chupa...
this is what turned me off on getting a chupa, as it sounded to heavy an modern in the clips I heard for my tastes. I love modded marshalls usually, maybe the yeti would be more up my alley. The chupa sounded nice in the clips from lugo's shootout but other then that I though the clips I heard sounded un marshalll like. I hope someone posts a good yeti demo, I want to hear it before buying one.

Keep in mind the type of music people play. Just because someone records a clip of the thing and they're playing something "heavy and modern" doesn't mean that's all the amp can do. I don't know if you've seen the video clip I made, but the amp sounds just like a Marshall to me. But obviously with way more gain on tap. I can't speak for anybody else, but the way I EQ amps usually makes them sound very aggressive. So that could very well be what you're hearing.

Hell, I can make my Metro Plexi clone sound heavy and modern. :)

But if not the Chupa, then the Yeti will definitely get what you're looking for.

As for it sounding un-Marshall in all the clips... I don't hear it. Sounds like most hot-rodded Marshalls out there to me. I think a few people told me it sounded similar to a Fortin, though. I've never played one so I can't really comment on that.

Gongrats on a very nice looking amp. Bet it sounds top class.

Agreed. It's an amp that doesn't just "give it to you"; you have to kinda look for it. It definitely sounds "Marshall" to me. The aggressiveness can be dialed back for sure, and keep in mind that with the amp shootout clips, you have one guy playing somewhat aggressively, and the type riffs as well. It also sounds like they were EQd similarly, as most guitarists tend to do. It is a versatile amp like I said, but I just want to find a way to tame it just a tad, likely through slightly lower gain preamp tubes. Unfortunately, I know exactly shit about tubes... ;) with that said, for about 10 seconds, I thought about selling it. After playing it this weekend, that would have been foolish.

How are you EQ'ing it?

Jealous!! I love my Chupacabra 50 but having a Yeti would just round out the portfolio. I played my AFD #35 yesterday through a V30-loaded 2x12 and now I'm re-thinking the sale. All of Nik's amps just have major Mojo. I was on the Normal channel with the input gain set high and had the AC/DC tone nailed, even with 6550s instead of EL34'S. The AFD channel has to be played to be truly understood. Gobs of usable gain with incredible articulation and touch-sensitivity. I was playing my SG and had the neck pickup volume rolled down and was switching back and forth between rich cleans and monster gain, all from the guitar with no amp changes. Brilliant!

Wow..great looking amp! Love the two tone tolex..
Unfortunately Nik does no longer offer custom tolex jobs.

But instead there is now the possibility to order Kits or a chassis without headshell. These options were not available when I ordered mine. Saves shipping costs and allows yourself to get creative.

Do any "high quality" clips/Vids exist of this amp?
Probably not.

The OP made a longer YT clip of the amp features that I personally like, but like him I am lacking decent recording gear to pull something meaningfull out (regardless if it would pass my private QC   ).

How different would the Yeti/Chupa sound from a Splawn Quick Rod?

I can answer most of this. I owned a Chup and currently own a 12 QR.

The Chup - That thing was a beast. It really did the high gain stuff great and with the addition of a decimator it was dead quiet. The drawback was that it was a one trick pony. No clean.

QR - Bought that(not from Splawner) based off some clips Splawner put up. As you know great cleans and a good gain. I could never get anywhere near the tone Splawer got and that was even with tube swaps and such so I called Splawn and shipped it to them 3 weeks ago. More to come on that.

Enter my recently acquired 1959 SLP reissue with FJA's Nick mod and clean channel added. Whew....I feel like I got the Chup gain HRP and the clean of the Splawn in one package.

Looks great. Break it open and let's see the build quality.
