Nothing in stock right now. I have to finalize my opening order. Talk about freaking FUN! Choosing a half dozen Charvel custom shop guitars all at once. The hard part will be letting them out of my clenched fists when they're done. "Hey, that one is mine. Hey, that one is mine too!" :D
As soon as you get the first 6 in stock, lemme know... I'm shopping...

I actually saw that you were getting that in the Ampfest thread, but I assure you my insanity is unrelated to yours...

Very cool post! Been a Charvel lover since the early 80's...glad to hear that they're building them the same way. There's been a lot of speculation and misinformation out there that these are simply Fenders with a different decal.

That is a great story. Looking forward to you carrying some custom shop Charvels.

Somewhere I have video of Mike Shannon, Tim Wilson, Mike Kotzen and the guy who used to be there marketing manager talking about this. It was from a clinic they did a few years ago. After Fender had bought them. These guys take great pride in their hand-crafted instruments. They use machines for rough shaping but most of it is done by hand. They talked about how they replace router bits and never sharpen anything so they they maintain tolerances. Frets are cut and are in bins that correspond to the fret # so that the curvature is right when they put it on their compound radius fretboards.

The details they put into them are incredible. They try really hard not make perfect instruments. Shit happens and sometimes some bad ones get through but you could tell they hate it as much as the customers do. They work very hard to make great instruments. Sadly Tim Wilson is no longer there.

awesome story (as always) and thanks for typing that out for us. Long time Charvel lover here and that was truly fun. I have shannon's autograph on one Jackson (Shannon soloist) and one limited run Charvel pointy. Awesomeness!

Of course you scored posters of Amy for all of your best customers right?

Very, very cool post. I've owned quite a few Charvels and I've loved each one of them. Still have 2 Koa ones.

Sadly, Amy works in the corporate offices in Scottsdale, AZ. No Amy on this tour. I could have maybe hooked you up with the lunch lady, but she didn't seem real happy with my group. :D

me too!  :rawk:
great story Curt!

Wow, I had no idea they were still working on that kind of scale. I just assumed since FMIC is now involved it was all outsourced labor and whatnot. Nice to know that this kind of business still can exist under a larger corporate umbrella.
